First Quarter - Week 2

Name of Learner: Alexandra B. Belecina Date: 09/08/2022

Section: Silver

MELC No: 8-13

MELCs:
• Convert a verbal description of a physical situation involving uniform acceleration
in one dimension into a mathematical description
• Interpret displacement and velocity, respectively, as areas under velocity vs. time
and acceleration vs. time curves
• Interpret velocity and acceleration, respectively, as slopes of position vs. time and
velocity vs. time curves
• Construct velocity vs. time and acceleration vs. time graphs, respectively,
corresponding to a given position vs. time-graph and velocity vs. time graph and
vice versa
• Solve for unknown quantities in equations involving one-dimensional uniformly
accelerated motion, including free fall motion
• Solve problems involving one-dimensional motion with constant acceleration in
contexts such as, but not limited to, the “tail-gating phenomenon”, pursuit,
rocket launch, and freefall problems

Title of the Lesson: Kinematics

Directions/Instructions:
1. You are encouraged to use a calculator (i.e. scientific calculator) in solving. 2. If
the spaces provided are not enough, you may write and show your solutions on
another sheet/s of paper.
3. The activities presented here will help you in the attainment of the learning
competencies. Read every instruction and do each activity with understanding.

Activity Proper:

Activity No. 1: Graphing I. Determining Slope on a Table 1

Motion: Let’s Move Motion Graph A. Distance, d (km)
Displacement-Time Graph Time, t (h)

1. Plot the given tabulated data (distance- 0 0 50 1 100 2 100 3 100 4 150 5 100 6
time, d-t) from Table 1. 50 7 0 8

2. Find the slope of the graph. Show your solution answer on the right
column. Write the appropriate unit of the final answer.

Answer: 50 km/h

d. at t = 5 h to t = 8 h △ y rise
Slope = =
△x run
0−1 5 0

8−5
Answer: -50 km/h

3. What does the slope for a d-t graph represent?

A d-t graph's slope, which represents the rate at which distance

changes, is referred to as speed.

4. What does a positive slope show? A negative slope? A zero slope?

A positive slope demonstrates that two variables are related to one
another and indicates that when the x increases, the y increases as
well. A zero slope, on the other hand, represents a consistent
relationship between the two variables. The rise over run is zero, and
the line is flat on a graph. A negative slope, on the contrary hand,
indicates two variables that are inversely associated and not
proportionate to one another.

5. Describe the motion of the jeepney based on the slopes you calculated in
number 2.
The jeepney typically started having 0 speed, after two hours, the
jeepney's speed regularly increased to 50 km/h, making it quicker
than at its starting speed. The jeepney abruptly stopped moving after
4 hours, then it resumed moving at a pace of 50 km/h. The jeep then
kept moving and sped off until the timer struck eight hours.

Answer: 4m/ s2
A.
Velocity-Time Graph
1. Determine the displacement of the object during the first 3 seconds.
Solution and Answer:

1
d = ( ). b. h

B. Acceleration-Time Graph Answer: 45 m
1. A sailboat is sailing
in a
straight line with a
velocity of
10 m/s. Then at time
 = 0 s, a
stiff wind blows causing
the
sailboat to accelerate as
seen
in the diagram below.

What is the velocity of

the
sailboat after the wind
has
blown for 7 seconds? Show
your solution and answer
below.

Solution and Answer:

Area of Triangle:
bh ( 2 s ) (−2m/ s2 )
=
2 2
Answer: 2 m/s

Area of Trapezoid:
a+b (3+7)s
h= (4m/ s2)
2 2
Answer: 20 m/s

Δ v = 18 m/s
Δ v = Vf - Vi
18 m/s = V f – 10 m/s
V f = 18 m/s + 10 m/s
V f =28 m/s

a= 2
(25.99 s )
Answer: a = 8.85 / 8.850m/ s2

2. A kangaroo is capable of jumping to a height of 2.32 m. Determine the takeoff

speed of the kangaroo.
Solution and Answer:
