Kangaroo
Linguistic Contest
Indonesia
2022
Background
As a result of discussions with European diplomats and suggestions from
officials from the quality assurance team (inspectors) of the Ministry of
National Education, the contest was first organized in Romania in 2004 by
the Foundation for European Integration SIGMA, Bucharest. The
International Kangaroo Linguistic Contest (IKLC) is held in 4 languages:
English, German, French, and Spanish. The main architect behind IKLC is Dr.
Boris Singer. IKLC turned out to be an effective contest for students'
productive learning. The fact that English is now undeniably the main
language of international communication, English IKLC is becoming an
increasingly valuable contest. The structure of this contest is the same as the
International Kangaroo Mathematics Contest.

IKLC is aimed at students in grades I – Xll and requires both knowledge of

languages and civilizations, as well as inspiration, intuition, and creativity.
The multiple choice test contains questions with different levels of difficulty
and topics that are grouped by education level. The contest lasts 60
minutes. Grades 1 - 4 students must answer 24 questions. Questions 1 – 8
are worth three points each, questions 9 – 16 are four points each, questions
17 – 24 are five points each. All students in grades 5 -12 will answer 30
questions. Questions 1 – 10 are worth three points each, questions 11 – 20
are four points each, questions 21 – 30 are five points each. Computerized
paper marking ensures impartial scoring and ranking.

The Kangaroo Linguistics Contest was started and held first in Romania and
then brought to Italy; later expanded to Bulgaria, Cyprus, Kazakhstan,
Georgia, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, and Pakistan. In some countries, these
contests have different names. In 2013-2014, the Kangaroo Linguistics
Contest in Romania was organized with the support of the following
institutions: Ministry of National Education, Embassy of France, Embassy of
Germany, Embassy of Canada, Embassy of Switzerland, Wallonie –
Delegation of Bruxelles in Bucharest, La Francophonie International
Organization, The Français Institute, and the British Council.
OBJECTIVE

The International Kangaroo Linguistic Contest has an

international character. It brings together the
linguistic pedagogical experience from a number of
countries and aims to promote a good communication
culture which is crucial for thriving in today’s world.
