    I. OVERVIEW

    Congratulations Academian, you have already understood the basic concepts of


    the different conic sections and practiced the skills on how to solve their standard
    equation in the previous modules. Now in this module, you will be learning how
    to use the standard form equations and solve simple word problems about conic
    sections.

    A. Learning Competency

    After going through this module, you are expected to:

    a) recognize the equation and important characteristics of the different types of conic
    sections (STEM_PC11AG-Ie1)
    b) (2) solves situational problems involving conic sections (STEM_PC11AG-Ie2)

    B. Specific Learning Objectives

    a) Identify what standard equation form will be used in a given word problem about
    conic sections
    b) Solve simple situational problems involving conic sections

    II. LET’S BEGIN

    You have learned in the previous modules that there are four types of conic
    sections: (1) circle, (2) parabola, (3) ellipse, and (4) hyperbola. These four
    types of conic sections have a corresponding standard equation form. But
    before we solve simple situational problems involving conic sections, we need
    first know how to identify an equation what type conic section is it, so that we
    may able to identify what standard form of the equation we need to use in a
    word problem.
