PROSPECTUS 2020/2021
BACKGROUND
The erstwhile Boksburg Emergency Services Training Academy was announced a Training Institution by legislation in
1992 (Fire Brigade Service Act. Act 99 of 1987, Section 6) and has since been involved in the development and
presentation of National Courses on behalf of the Southern African Emergency Services Institute (SAESI).
SAESI received accreditation for 4 NFPA Codes (6 programs) from the International Fire Services Accreditation Congress
(IFSAC) in 1995. The erstwhile Boksburg Emergency Services Training Academy has been accredited as an agent for
SAESI and was voted as the “The training center of the year “in 2002 by SAESI. Our Academy now have accreditation for
8 NFPA Codes (39 programs).
The name of this training academy changed to “Ekurhuleni Emergency Services Training Academy” due to the forming of
the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.
The Ekurhuleni Emergency Services Training Academy is also a QCTO and LGSETA accredited training provider for a
variety of qualifications and unit standards. Also a QCTO accredited assessment centre for the Occupational Certificate:

VISION
MISSION
Ekurhuleni Emergency Services Training Academy (EESTA) will deliver training that is of high standard to all its learners,
all of the time. It is our ambition to be part of all registered institutes / agencies that are of world-class status. Development
of fire fighters is the priority of the Academy. To ensure that our education programs are current, the Academy will remain
affiliated to SAESI / IFSAC, SAQA, QCTO and LGSETA.
The Training Academy strives to render services that are of high quality but affordable to all its customers and:
To reach all the set target as in the IDP documents as our first priority.
To ensure that the training is tailored to fit the current national and international standards.
To develop a database that will make it simple to identify skill shortage in the EMM Emergency Services division.
To train fire fighters to the level of rank advancement and development
GENERAL COSTS
PAYMENTS
Direct payments for the courses and meals should be made to the City of Ekurhuleni.

RULES APPLYING
The house rules of this Training Academy will be applicable to all students.
Dates and courses can be cancelled or altered by the Academy if required.
The student should have at least Grade 12
The student should be physically & mentally fit, medical certificate to be produced as proof.
Course fees must be fully paid before the commencement of the course.
Any re-issuing of certificates will cost R 182.00 per certificate.
Any re-issuing of statement of results will cost R 96.00 per statement.
All certificates and statements of results must be signed for.
All students are to supply their own study materials (including text books) with the exception of Ekurhuleni employees.
INDEMNITY
All learners should complete the indemnity before the course commences.
APPLICATIONS
All applications should be received by the closing date, indicated on the program. No late submissions will be accepted.

RULES APPLYING
The theoretical pass mark for the SAESI / IFSAC accredited courses is 70%
The practical pass mark for the SAESI / IFSAC accredited courses is 100%
All certificates for the SAESI / IFSAC accredited training will be issued by SAESI only and applicants must apply for said
certificates.
ASSESSMENT CRITERION
The assessment methods used by the Academy include both but not limited to Theory and Practicals for all
our courses.
► Theory (written certification exams) - the written Test & Exams for each certification level contains between 50 to 200
questions in a variety of formats, which includes multiple choice questions, true/false, match the columns, short

questions and long questions. Time is allocated in a ratio of (1) one mark per minute for tests and exams. A minimum
score of 70% (Percent) is required for successful completion. Students scoring less than 70% (Percent) will be
eligible for re-testing within five working days of the test date. A 100% (Percent) pass mark is required for
competency examinations.

with visor, Fire fighting Gloves and Flash Hood.
Each learner must also supply their own SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) and 2m x 11mm
Kernmantel rope.
