1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this FOT is to inform about the introduction of a new system reset procedure to avoid
delay, in the case of spurious triggering of the ENG 1(2) EIU FAULT alert after Engine Start.

This procedure only applies to A319/A320/A321 aircraft equipped with PW1100G-JM engines.

2. DESCRIPTION

There were reports of ENG 1(2) EIU FAULT alerts that occurred just after engine start on
A319/A320/A321 aircraft equipped with PW1100G-JM engines. Based on Airbus investigations, these
events are related to ENG MODE rotary selector faults that cause spurious triggering of this alert.

In accordance with the MMEL, it is not permitted to dispatch the aircraft when the ENG 1(2) EIU FAULT
alert is displayed.

Refer to [REF 1] TFU 73.25.00023 for more technical details.

3. RECOMMENDATIONS

Based on investigations and reported events, when the ENG MODE rotary selector is set to NORM at
the end of the Engine Start procedure (as per SOPs), the ENG 1(2) EIU FAULT alert may trigger. This
occurs due to a fault in the ENG MODE rotary selector.

If the ENG 1(2) EIU FAULT alert triggers after engine start, an ENG MODE rotary selector reset may
clear this spurious alert.

FLIGHT OPERATIONS TRANSMISSION - FOT

This reset is performed in two steps. The first step is to move the ENG MODE rotary selector from the
NORM to the IGN position, after the ECAM alert triggers. The second step is to move the ENG MODE
rotary selector back to the NORM position.

This reset procedure is authorized when this ECAM alert appears only on one side (EIU 1 or EIU 2).

The QRH and FCOM System Reset Tables were updated, to provide this temporary reset procedure
for the flight crew.

4. FOLLOW-UP PLAN

The updated QRH and FCOM are available on request, with an unplanned FCOM/QRH revision.
Advance copies of the updated QRH and FCOM procedures are attached to this transmission.

There is currently no terminating action to fix this issue.

Refer to [REF 1] TFU 73.25.00023 to be informed of any progress on the investigation and solution
proposal for this issue.
