MONOLOGUE: IS IT WORTH TO GO TO UNIVERSITY


With the rising costs of college, many students might wonder if it's
worth it or not.

Stories abound of graduates struggling to find employment and


trying to develop more alternative routes. And who's wondering if a
degree is still worth getting?

It is true some questions are posed around this in these times, due
to the fact that there are so many university graduates, is it true that now
do employers look for people with greater work experience? Secondly,
what about the additional burden of long term, students debts hanging
over you?

There are lots of reasons why it is still worth going to university.

Firstly, getting a degree can certainly put you a head of the game in
terms of careers prospects.

Secondly, University also helps you to build a professional network


of academics and industry leaders who will connect you to exciting career
prospects.

Another point to consider in order to defend the bet to go to


University is the following: at University, not only will you develop those-
after skills that will enable you to take the lead in a wide range of
employment situations and workplaces but maybe, you will also earn
more money over your working life than if you don't get a degree.

In fact, Uni isn't just about getting a job or an education, it gives you
much more, it's a question of ambitious.

There are five reasons why University might just change your life:

1. The power to do what you love. It is the place where you get to dive
deep into a subject and you could fire your imagination. Going to
University gives you the chance to gain an interactive understanding

of the foundational aspects of your subjects, as well as a unique


insight into contemporary knowledge.
2. You'll make friends for life. You will meet people who are driving by
the same desire to learn and innovate as you. That's a pretty recipe
for making friends, sharing a passion, experiences and
understanding of what you are going through.
3. You gain independence. University really encourages independence.
It allows you to strike out on your own, to build confidence in your
own ideas and to get the freedom to become you.
4. Uni allows you develop critical thinking skills. Developing the ability
to communicate effectively, problem solving abilities and
entrepreneurship, a sense that you can go and make things happen.
Taking into account that all of these factors are essential skills for
life.
5. University is a world of opportunities. There, you could take up
opportunities for an overseas experience.

Even though, there are plenty of reasons why is a good idea for
going to University, we have to consider the downsides of it.

Firstly, the current cost of tuition is outrageous and it is well known


that going to Uni is not a guarantee to find a great job.

On the other hand, many youngsters don't know their perspectives


in the future, and in this situation, it might be worth taking some time to
try out some experiences and in this way, this could lead you to have
clear ideas of what you would like to be in life. It would be a good idea to
consider looking at options for volunteering.

Moreover, not all careers need a degree and some have on the job
training pathways, if it is a vocational career, you are interested in
pursuing then it might be worth looking at all the options. Remember that
some of country's most successful businessmen did not go to University.

It would be interesting to promote alternatives to uni with the


purpose that teenagers could understand better the range of courses
available for them, since there are many different ways to get into your
choose career without going to University.

To sum up, there are a plenty of reasons to choose going, but at the
same time, there are any other good reasons against going there. But, in
fact, the answer to whether University is worth it, it is something only you
can decide for yourself. It is important that before taking the decision you
take a long hard look at why you want to go to University and what you
hope to get out of it and then you will be able to decide what would be
the best option.
