PCA-Human Resource Frame Worksheet


Worksheet Objectives:

1. Describe the human resource frame

2. Apply the human resource frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

Working in a blue-collar industry comes with more safety regulations than many are
aware of. The trucking company that I currently work for had an incident occur a few
weeks ago which could have been horrific. In this incident, a driver neglected the safety
of his dump-truck and forgot to lock in a tub. A ‘tub’ in a dump-truck is a container that
is within the “dump” trailer that you see from the outside. These tubs are locked in place
so they do not fall out of each other. We received a phone call that the city then had to
use an excavator to drag the tub across the road off of the freeway. Not only was this in-
cident unsafe, it was an expensive loss. Thankfully, nobody was hurt but this could have
gone a very different way. Due to his negligence and more incidents early this year, it has
come to our attention that our drivers need more training on safety. My role in this situa-
tion is important because I file away information and gather information necessary for
my boss. For instance, I put together name rosters for safety meetings and file away doc-
uments when incidents occur. In this case, this driver was written-up so I had to file away
the information from the meeting for the write-up.

2) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the situation.

Human Resources influenced the situation in a few ways. The first being, we keep his in-
formation of the write-up confidential. While this driver may have made a monumental
mistake, it is important that other employees do not know his consequences. If another
employee learned of his consequence, he could be made fun of or harassed.

Another way that Human Resources played a role in this situation was by scheduling
drivers for more trainings. This is human resources responsibility because they keep track

of all trainings that have been completed and the scores that they receive. It is important
to keep this information confidential also because again, if another employee knows that
someone did not pass a training- they could be harassed by other employees.

3) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

If I was to use human resources as an alternative course of action, I would have done a
very similar process as to what had taken place. I would have had human resources take
the documentation of the incident and review it deeper. I would have also had them in-
vestigate the situation and had them ask the driver more questions. Then, I would have
had Human Resources suggest the best disciplinary action for the driver. Like I said, my
role is very similar to what Human Resources would have done.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

I would have not done anything differently after reviewing this frame. We determined the
best course of action to take after careful review of the incident. We also kept everything
confidential for the employee. Employees in the office know that the information we
have in regards to drivers is not to be spoken about to other employees. I believe that our
system for dealing with incidents is professional.
