CFPA VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

We need you!
Please check off areas of interest. ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT If you prefer tackling one-time jobs and can spare an occasional weekday morning or afternoon, join us to help with membership mailings and general office tasks such as data entry, word processing and filing. Many of these tasks are ongoing and can be undertaken at your convenience during regular office hours (M-F, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). ARCHIVAL ASSISTANCE Lend a hand if you are a lover of history with good organizational skills. The Camp-Ellsworth Library, located at CFPA Headquarters, holds a fine collection of books, periodicals and videos relating to forestry, hiking, natural history and other environmental topics. As the oldest conservation organization in Connecticut, CFPA has also acquired a generous collection of photos, slides and other historical documents. Your behind-the-scenes help with these treasures includes cataloguing, annotating and preserving. WALKCT FAMILY RAMBLES PROGRAM Do you enjoy sharing your connection to the land with children? Do you prefer spending time outdoors rather then inside? Become a trained WalkCT Family Guide and lead family rambles along a BlueBlazed Hiking Trail, city or state park, forest, or other open space which you enjoy. LAND CONSERVATION/FOREST MANAGEMENT Are you interested in research? Do you enjoy a sense of discovery? Research landowner records at town halls; assist with collecting and entering trail and property data into our Geographic Information System (GIS) program and work with local planning, zoning and conservation agencies to monitor proposed development on and around Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail corridors. Help enhance CFPAs longterm trail protection strategy! PUBLICATIONS Are you an artist or photographer? Do you have writing or editing experience? These are just a small sampling of the skills we look for from volunteers who are interested in providing hands-on assistance with CFPAs publications and informational brochures. If you can write engagingly about natural history, hiking the Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails, conservation issues and other environmental topics, wed like to hear from you. If you have recent photographs or sketches depicting the best of Connecticuts outdoors or scenic Blue-Blazed Hiking Trail vistas, we would like to consider them for publication in future issues of our quarterly journal, Connecticut Woodland, or for use on CFPAs official website, www.ctwoodlands.org. PUBLIC OUTREACH/SPECIAL EVENTS Are you a people-person? Do you like to travel around Connecticut and meet others? Bring your outgoing personality around the state to represent and promote the Association at agricultural and

environmental fairs, Earth Day and Trails Day activities and similar events. Place flyers, brochures and other CFPA marketing material at libraries, information kiosks and other venues. Plan and run a special event such as a fun run, letterboxing event, or other creative idea you have that can help build public awareness about CFPA and also gain financial support. TRAIL MAINTENANCE/FIELD WORK Let your love of the outdoors and hiking help the trails. Assist in the maintenance of the 825+mile BlueBlazed Hiking Trail System. Light pruning, removal of debris and painting blazes are typical tasks. Work with a CFPA Trail Manager on a trail near you, or assist CFPAs Roving Trail Crews as they undertake major projects, such as bridge-building and trail construction. If you are a regular hiker, become a Trail Monitor and report trail hazards/conditions on a simple form that we provide. Youll receive the Blue Blaze, CFPA's spring & fall trail newsletter that lists statewide trail work parties. Or, let us know if youd like to help maintain native plant wildlife gardens and/or trails at the Goodwin Conservation Center in Hampton___________.

Thank you for making a difference! Your time and assistance are important in the work to conserve Connecticuts natural resources, trails and working lands. You are needed for trails work, education programs, administrative support, public outreach and much, much more. Please complete both sides of this form. Please return your completed form to CFPA via one of the following ways: -- Mail it to CFPA, 16 Meriden Rd.; Rockfall, CT 06481 or -- Fax it to 860-347-7463 or -- Scan it and email as a .pdf to info@ctwoodlands.org
