MARITIME ISSUE SPEECH

Good day everyone, my speech is all about maritime issues. Recently, everyone
is shocked by the issue about the ongoing territorial disputes in the South China Sea or
Spratly Island China, the Philippines and other Asian countries that are concerning to
the ownership of the Spratly Island. There are incidents that our local Filipino fishermen
was prevented by China to come near the Spratly Island. Not only that, China also
prevented the Philippines from carrying out oil and gas development projects in the
Spratly Island. As a Filipino, what are we going to do? Should we fight for what we are
claiming but can result to a war? We don’t need a war, we only need peace and
security, a proper negotiation and arrangements is the only key. As a person, we need
to sometimes overlook to what we are claiming or fighting. We need to overlook to the
reason of another individual who is claiming or fighting for it. A proper negotiation,
communication and understanding is important for the whole world unite as one as
before. Especially in maritime industry, we seafarers will be with other people in a long
period of time when we go onboard a ship with different Nationality who has different
cultures, beliefs and languages. To complete the operation and each of our contract
successfully, we need to understand each other not for us to go along but also for the
safety of the others and maintain the worthiness of our vessel. That ends my speech,
thank you.
