2ND SUPPLY BATTALION Chaplains Corner FAMILY CARE PLANS

Idontneedonebecause I am married, and my spouse will take care of the children during my deployment. That response sounds good, but is not sufficient when planning for the unforeseen. You may have peace of mind knowing that out-of-town relatives will fill the gap, but relatives need time to travel, and someone will need to care for the children until their arrival. I posed this question to my wife as a part of our deployment planning. We realized that there was a gap in our plan because my in-laws are approximately 20 hours from where we live, and they need that travel time in order to safely get here. I picked up a Family Care Plan from our FRO (he does not bite), and filled in the forms. We have wonderful neighbors down the street who have agreed to provide care for our children, to fill the gap, should Sandi end up being hospitalized during deployment, until in-laws arrive. All of us drove to our local Navy Federal Credit Union, and signed the

documents in front of a notary; there was no cost for notarizing the documents. I then turned in a copy to our FRO. Look, any parent who loves his/her children will ensure that a plan is in place. Your children are the most precious members of your family, and you cant replace them. There is nothing like having peace of mind in knowing that your children are receiving the best care possible by people who love them. That is worth more than money in the bank or winning the lottery.

Red Cross emergency communications services keep military personnel in touch with their families. No matter where a military member and their family are stationed, the Red Cross will deliver their notifications in times of crisis.
