COURSE OUTLINE PROGRESSION
OPPORTUNITIES
This course is designed to meet the needs of students wishing to pursue a career in Public
Services sector– Police Service, Criminal Intelligence, Major Crime Investigation, Crime
Analytics, Justice Services such as in Probation / Youth Justice, Security Services Personnel Job Roles: Justice Services
(youth justice/ probation officer),
and other Criminal Justice support agencies You will develop a firm understanding about the
Police officer, criminal Intelligence
Justice system and criminology, human psychology and sociology and social diversity through a analyst, major crime investigator,
series of core and specialised modules including: Justice, Punishment and Rehabilitation, and scenes of crime, crime analyst,
Theories of Crime. detention officer, solicitor, security
services personnel.
The Pearson BTEC Level 4 & 5 HNC/D in Public Services provides a specialist, work-related Top-up Degrees: BA/BSc (Hons) in
programme of study that covers the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills Public Services, Criminology,
required in the Public Services sector and also offers particular emphasis through the choice of Criminal Psychology, Policing, Law,
specialist units tailored in year 2 to your chosen careers pathway. Public services and the
Community .
A key progression path for BTEC HNC and HND learners is to the second or third year of a
degree or honours degree programme, depending on the match of the BTEC Higher National
units to the degree programme in question.

QUALIFICATION & RECOGNITION


You must achieve a minimum of 240 credits in order to achieve the BTEC HND qualification in
Public Services. The qualification is awarded by Pearson, who are one of the leading examining
and awarding bodies in the UK and throughout the world. This course is delivered at our London
Campus and is run in collaboration with New College Swindon.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
YEAR ONE MODULES CREDITS UK and EU students:
Organisational Structure and Culture 15
 ‘A’ level standard or overseas equivalent
Mental Health 15
 Mature students (21+) with at least 2 years
Equality and Diversity 15 of relevant experience and level 2 or
Public Services in Contemporary Society 15 equivalent.

Crime Reduction & Community Safety 15  Other UK level 3 qualifications (e.g.


Foundation Diploma, Access to HE Certificate,
Law and Legal Systems 15 a BTEC National, Advanced GNVQ or AVCE)
or equivalent.

YEAR TWO MODULES CREDITS  The BTEC Level 5 qualifications are accredited on
the QCF or RQF for learners aged 18 years and

Reflective Professional Practice 15 NOTES:
Youth Offending 15  Applicants will be subject to the College’s entrance
tests and a personal interview by a member of the
Contemporary Sociological Issues 15 admissions team.
Offender Management 15  Selection will be in the light of previous
qualifications, past/ present experience, motivation
Justice, Punishment and Rehabilitation 15 and future aspirations.
 Overseas learners must show proficiency in the
Theories of Crime 15 English language.
