National News

India’s 1st lithium-ion cell factory inaugurated in Andhra Pradesh

• The Minister of State for Electronics and


Information Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar has
launched the pre-production run of India’s first
lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility at Tirupati,
Andhra Pradesh.

• This state-of-the-art facility has been set up


by Chennai-based Munoth Industries Limited with
an outlay of Rs 165 crores.

• The installed capacity of the plant at present


is 270 MWH and can produce 20,000 cells of 10Ah capacity daily.

• These cells are used in power banks and this capacity is around 60 per cent of India’s present
requirement.

• Currently, India imports complete requirements of lithium-ion cells primarily from China, South Korea,
Vietnam, and Hong Kong.

• Indian Bank has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the SRM University, Andhra Pradesh to
Lend up to 50 Crores for Start-ups incubated at Hatchlab Research Centre.

• Andhra Pradesh government entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with National Institute for
Smart Government

• Government of Andhra Pradesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding with “Parley for the Oceans”,
United States based Environmental organization for plastic-waste management

• The Andhra Pradesh cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy approved the
renaming of Konaseema as Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema district that was carved out of the East Godavari
district in the 1st week of April 2022.

Kashmir is set to get its first multiplex in Srinagar

• The first multiplex in Kashmir will be


opened in Srinagar by Jammu and
Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj
Sinha.

• Manoj Sinha, the J&K L-G, inaugurated


multipurpose movie theatres in Pulwama
and Shopian.

• After a three-decade Kashmir will once


again have movie theatres. The three
movie theatres of the INOX-designed multiplex will have a combined seating capacity of 520 people.

• The lobbies also have a Kashmiri wood “Khatambandh,” giving them a Kashmiri cultural appearance and
highlighting Kashmir’s art and design.

• The public will be allowed access to the multiplex after a special showing of the Aamir Khan film “Lal
Singh Chaddha.”

Saffron from Kashmir GI-tagged on sites both domestic and abroad

• Farmers in the Union Territory of Jammu


and Kashmir are now able to sell their
products on domestic and international
marketplaces thanks to the GI labelling of
Kashmiri saffron.

• A GI is primarily an agricultural, natural or a


manufactured product (handicrafts and
industrial goods) originating from a definite
geographical territory.

• Once the GI protection is granted, no other producer can misuse the name to market similar products. It
also provides comfort to customers about the authenticity of that product.

• The registration of a geographical indication is valid for a period of 10 years. It can be renewed.

• In India Geographical Indications registration is administered by the Geographical Indications of Goods


(Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 which came into force with effect from September 2003. The first
product in India accorded with GI tag was Darjeeling tea in the year 2004-05.

• To promote seamless movement of goods across India

• To competitiveness of Indian goods in domestic and global markets

• Currently, Indian logistics market is over $200 billion.

• It has over 20 government agencies, 40 Partner Government Agencies, 37 export promotion councils, 500
certifications, more than 10,000 commodities and a $160-billion market.

• India spends around 13 to 14% of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) on logistics costs

Policy Targets:

• Reducing the cost of logistics from 14-18% of GDP to global best practices of 8% by 2030. It also targets
to reduce logistics cost to 10% of GDP over the next 5 years.

• Improving India’s Logistics Performance Index (LPI) ranking to be among top 25 countries by 2030 from
44 in 2018.

• Under this policy, the Government will introduce Integrated Digital System (IDS) that will integrate 30
systems belonging to ministries of road transport, railways, customs, aviation, foreign trade, and
commerce for faster, cheaper and safer logistics services.

• All these departments have their own digital data which will be integrated under IDS.

• The PM also launched the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) that will bring all the digital services
related to the transportation sector into a single portal,

• A new digital platform, Ease of logistics Services or E-Log has also been launched through which industry
associations can take up any issues regarding operations and performance with the government.

Maharashtra’s Daulatabad Fort to be renamed as ‘Devgiri’ Fort

to Devgiri which is located near
Aurangabad.

Singh at Imphal launched a web facility to gather
complaints and concerns from the general
public.

• The web portal is called “CM Da Haisi,”


which translates to “to inform the CM,” and the
public can express their complaints there by
visiting www.cmdahaisi.mn.gov.in.

• The status of the complaints may also be


checked by the complainants.

• The Indian Air Force is set to retire its


Srinagar-based MiG-21 squadron ‘Sword Arms’.

• MiG-21 squadron ‘Sword Arms’ was a


part of strike when wing commander abhinandan
Varthaman had downed an F-16 combat aircraft
of Pakistan a day after the Balakot strike in
February 2019.

• ‘Sword Arms’ is one of its four remaining


squadrons of ageing MiG-21 fighter jets.

• The remaining three squadrons of MiG-21 will be phased out by 2025.

• Scientists in China have successfully
cloned wild Arctic Wolf for the first time

• A Beijing-based gene firm had succeeded


in cloning the Arctic Wolf to prevent the
endangered species from going extinct.

• The newly cloned wolf was named Maya,


which means good health.

• The donor cell of the wolf came from a


skin sample of a wild female Arctic Wolf.

• The beagle(a dog breed) was chosen as the surrogate mother since this dog breed is found to share
genetic ancestry with ancient wolf.

• Artificially, the first animal to be cloned was a sheep named Dolly.

• It was created in 1996 by a Scottish scientist using an udder cell from an adult sheep.

About Arctic Wolf:

• The Arctic Wolf is also known as white wolf or polar wolf.

• It is native to the High Arctic tundra of Canada’s Queen Elizabeth Islands. It is a subspecies of the grey
wolf.

• Since the 1930s, there has been a significant decline in the size of the Arctic wolf’s skull because of the
wolf-dog hybridization.

Kazakhstan renames capital to Astana

• The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-


Jomart Tokayev, signed constitutional
amendments that extended the nation’s
presidential term to 7 years from 5 years,
and brought back the old name of the
country’s capital to Astana from the
current Nur-Sultan.

• The amendment bar any president from


running for a second term in office.

• It should be noted that Astana became


the capital of Kazakhstan in 1997.

• Then in 2019, its capital was named ‘Nur-Sultan’ in honour of outgoing President Nursultan Nazarbayev,
who ruled the nation for 3 decades.

World’s first public database on fossil fuels ‘Global Registry of


Fossil Fuels’ launched
• Carbon Tracker and Global Energy Monitor
launched the “Global Registry of Fossil Fuels”, the
world’s first registry of fossil fuel reserves,
production and emissions.

• This is the first ever fully transparent and


public database that tracks fossil fuel production
worldwide that tracks its impact on the carbon
budget.

• It includes data from over 50,000 oil, gas


and coal fields in 89 countries, covering 75% of global reserves, production and emissions, and is available
for public use.

• The database also provides information about the availability of coal stock globally.

Doordarshan and YouTube series
titled “Door Se Namaste” at a function held
in New Delhi.

• Door Se Namaste is a new television series


which promotes healthy behaviours in a
post-pandemic world.

• It is a fictional Hindi series developed in an


entertainment education format highlighting the challenges of a post-pandemic world and promoting the
adoption of healthy behaviour and practices.

China and UAE’s joint moon rover missions


• The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre
(MBRSC) of the UAE and the China National
Space Agency (CNSA) have signed a
memorandum of understanding to work together
on the UAE’s moon missions.

• The agreement marks the first joint space


project between the two countries.

• Under the project, the UAE will develop a


rover dubbed Rashid-2; China will help it with the
landing, data transmission, observation, and
control.

• In the last decade China has launched three successful lunar surface missions dubbed Change 3, Change
4, and Change 5.

• In 2020, Change 5 also brought samples back from Moon to Earth.

• MBRSC’s Rashid rover will be delivered to Moon’s surface later this year aboard the HAKUTO-R lander—
developed by Japanese company ispace.

World Wrestling Championships 2022


• 17th edition of the World Wrestling

• The United States of America lead the


table with 15 medals followed by Japan (2nd
place) and Turkey (3rd place).

• India is ranked 24th with 2 medals.

• India’s Bajrang Punia (Haryana) has won


the men’s 65 kg Freestyle bronze medal by defeating Sebastian Rivera of Puerto Rico in the World
Wrestling Championships 2022.

• This is his 4th championship medal in the World Wrestling championship edition. Previously he has won
a silver in 2018, a bronze in 2013 and 2019. medal.

• He is the only wrestler from India to have 4 medals in the World Wrestling Championships.

• The 28-year-old Bajrang Punia had won 2 Gold medals in 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2014 Asian
Games and a bronze medal in 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

• He is the first Indian wrestler to be ranked world No. 1 in any category.

September 17: Hyderabad Liberation Day


• On 17th September 2022 Union Home
Minister Amit Shah started off Hyderabad
Liberation Day (or National Integration Day)
celebrations from the Parade ground in
Telangana’s Secunderabad to commemorate 75
years of liberation of Hyderabad.

• At the time of the Partition of India, in


1947, India was divided into British India and
Princely states.

• The states were acceded to either


Pakistan or India. Hyderabad was one of the large princely state.

• Indian Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel decided to annex Hyderabad, and that led to ‘Operation
Polo’ (Police action against Hyderabad).

• Nizam of Hyderabad Mir Osman Ali Khan, the 7th in the line of the Asaf Jahi dynasty, had surrendered
Hyderabad during the Operation and the state was integrated into the territory of India on 17th
September 1948, which is now celebrated as Hyderabad Liberation Day.

• 17th September is also celebrated as Marathwada Liberation Day by Maharashtra and Hyderabad-
Karnataka Liberation Day by Karnataka.

• From 1956 to 2014 Hyderabad was the capital of Andhra Pradesh state, but, with the creation of
Telangana from Andhra Pradesh in 2014, it was redesignated as the capital of Telanaga with separate
Capital, Amravati for Andhra -pradesh.

• Hyderabad is located on the Musi River in the heart of the Telangana Plateau.

• Hyderabad was founded by the Quṭb Shāhī sultans of Golconda.

• Charminar, historic monument located at the heart of Hyderabad,

• The monument was built in 1591 by Muḥammad Qulī Quṭb Shah, the fifth king of the Quṭb Shāhī dynasty,
reportedly as the first building in Hyderabad, his new capital.

SBI WeCare FD scheme for senior citizens extended till March


31, 2023
• The State Bank of India (SBI)’s ‘WECARE’
Senior Citizens’ Fixed Deposit scheme has
extended upto 31st March 2023.

• In 2022, SBI launched the special FD


scheme “SBI WECARE” to secure senior citizens’
income

• A special “SBI Wecare” Deposit for Senior


Citizens introduced in the Retail Term Deposit
segment wherein an additional premium of 30
bps will be paid to Senior Citizen’s on their retail TD for ‘5 Years and above’ tenor only.

• SBI already offers additional 0.5 per cent interest to senior citizens above the age of 60 and under the SBI
Wecare deposit scheme the total interest payable to senior citizens goes up to 0.8 per cent.

• Period of Deposit– Minimum- 5 years & Maximum- 10 years.
