We, the graduating class of 2007, have a great deal of respect for President Wagner. However, in terms of
making our graduation special and meaningful, we would like to bring in an outside speaker for graduation.
We understand that we are still planning on bringing someone for Class Day. However, as President Wagner
already speaks at graduation about the specifics of the Emory community, the decision to have him as the
only speaker diminishes the importance of the ceremony.

the keynote speaker during commencement.

also feel that there are countless other opportunities to be addressed by him and graduation should not be
just one of those.

66. Jason Glushon (12/3/06) - Commencement is supposed to be special event and hear speakers that we
have NEVER heard before. What does 'keynote speaker' actually mean?
67. David Jackson (12/3/06) - If my whole family is coming to see me grauate, I want them to be treated to
something special.

91. Bretton Saxon (12/3/06) - c'mon... really?

92. Jessica Kreps (12/3/06) - This is embarrassing for our school.
93. Alexandra Brodman (12/3/06) - If someone from the Emory community needs to speak, what about
Salman Rushdie?
94. Rachel Nelson (12/3/06) 95. Jennifer Eick (12/3/06) - President Wagner is a wonderful speaker, but someone we have all been able to
hear many times before. I would hope Emory is able to find a fresh face for commencement.
96. Adam Gerstein (12/3/06) - We deserve to hear a speaker who accomplished something great in life, not
the president of our university
97. Heena Virani (12/3/06) 98. Vanessa Van Petten (12/3/06) - Even if we don't get a prominent figure, at least get one of the published
and eloquent faculty to speak!
99. Jeff Samotny (12/3/06) 100. Joe Moss (12/3/06) - Wow. Just wow.
101. Heather Greenfield (12/3/06) 102. Alegra Chavez-Holzman (12/3/06) 103. Chelsea Allen (12/3/06) 104. Sumehra Premji (12/3/06) 105. Esther Abelman (12/3/06) 106. Cat Garofalo (12/3/06) 107. 116. Tyler Basen (12/3/06) 117. Emily Donohoe (12/3/06) - I went to a top 20 school for a reason, to at least get some recognition. At
most graduations doesn't the president and also a well known speaker speak?
118. Brandon Moore (12/3/06) - They have got to be joking...seriously.
119. Michael Gitner (12/3/06) 120. Tamara Goldschmidt (12/3/06) 121. Michael Kaufman (12/3/06) 122. Carrie Putterman (12/3/06) 123. Brian Magida (12/3/06) 124. Matt Soifer (12/3/06) 125. 196. Emily Jupiter (12/3/06) 197. Ryan Covert (12/3/06) 198. Ariel Katz (12/3/06) - I think President Wagner is fantastic but students look forward to having a special
outside speaker for graduation. We have always had that in the past and it is unfair for our graduating class
not to be given that same priviledge.
199. Lisa Kennish (12/3/06) 200. Daniel Chertok (12/3/06) 201. Julia Rohr (12/3/06) 202. Eric Stein (12/3/06) 203. Steven Haag (12/3/06) 204. Abby Arganese (12/3/06) 205. Erica E. Davis (12/3/06) 206. Matt Craig (12/3/06) - I'm glad President Wagner has been with us for 4 years and therefore wants this
to be a special commencment ceremony;however, personally, I've been looking forward to recieving a more
"high profile" commencement speaker for the past 4 years. If the school is trying to save money, maybe they
should just scrap the plans for a $100K statue of Dooley.
207. Sally Last (12/3/06) 208. Hannah Pringle (12/3/06) 209. Mark Ponticelli (12/3/06) 210. Lesley Silverman (12/3/06) 211. Judy Hsu (12/3/06) 212. Rachel Saltzman (12/3/06) - President Wagner is extreemly involved in student life, and has made
Emory better in the past four years. With that said he should speak at every graduation, in addition to an
outside speaker. Emory is a private institution and the students expect a certain standard. For 42,000 a year
we deserve an excellent speaker.

Wagner but feel that having him as our keynote speaker at Commencement is quite disappointing.

that he would be speaking at graduation since that would be one of his responsibilities as President. As long
as whoever we bring isn't like last years speaker who was extremely impersonal and just a poor choice in
general.

Takeia Horton (12/4/06) - Every other university gets a well-known speaker and that is what makes
graduation so special. I expected a famous speaker when I paid my $46,000.

Austin Chan (12/4/06) 439. Jonathan Luk (12/4/06) 440. Shandra Scott (12/4/06) - I strongly agree with Takeia. If Emory wants to be viewed on par with Ivy
League institutions such as Harvard or Yale, then they need to behave as those institutions. Therefore, a high
profile speaker at our graduation is a necessary component. No offense to Pres. Wagner, but it is
disrespectful to the graduating class for Emory to not bother to bring in a noteworthy speaker.

456. Emily Hetherington (12/4/06) 457. Nolan E. Phillips (12/4/06) - It is absurd to have President Wagner give another speech at graduation.
He is already to talk about the Emory community, so why have him as our speaker? Is it cheaper to just have
one person speak twice? Is the 45 grand a year from all the graduating students not enough to get a notable
OUTSIDE speaker? We try to call ourselves "The Harvard of the South" but we look like a community college
having its' president as the graduating speaker. Thanks for shortchaning us once again Emory; I'm sure this
will help with alumni donations....
458. Kevin Janflone (12/4/06) 459. Ross Andre (12/4/06) 460. Daphne Pierre (12/4/06) 461. Shari Kashani (12/4/06) 462. Amit Rustgi (12/4/06) - wagner has bad breath, hooves, and brown teeth
463. Jen Kha (12/4/06) 464. Andrew Fleming (12/4/06) 465. Stephen Chelko (12/4/06) - this is ri-dunk-ulous.....thanks emory for saving the few bucks you might
have. i mean maybe we should put parking pass moolah towards our graduation...god knows those damn
hang-tags already burn holes in our wallets
466. Daniel Bellware (12/4/06) 467. Brandon Kernan (12/4/06) - Does Wagner even speak english? The guy is clearly going bald, I would
rather start a relationship with a furrie than go on a date with Wags.

479. Michaela DuBay (12/4/06) - Wagner will already be speaking at the event, we're just being cheap and
not finding someone else. I'm pretty sure $160,000 is worth more than a free speaker.
480. Jane Farrington (12/4/06) 481. Brenton Kinker (12/4/06) 482. Christina Stewart (12/4/06) 483. Laura Bedson (12/4/06) 484. Patricia Grosse (12/4/06) 485. Ashley Sroka (12/4/06) - With all due respect to President Wagner. This has nothing to do with not liking

499. Stephanie Bruno (12/4/06) - An important speaker will benefit the university as well as the seniors. Many
other top universities seek well-known graduation speakers to attract publicity and prestige. Hello Emory, get
on the ball!!

Angela McFarlin (12/4/06) 510. Katie Trust (12/4/06) 511. Ashley Cerone (12/4/06) 512. Anthony Berta (12/4/06) - In order to be a 'desintation university,' Emory should follow the lead of the
truly 'destination' schools and find a speaker that provides insight and debate on topics other than those on
campus...if Emory can't scrounge up enough money out of their ~$5 billion endowment, then maybe they're
just content to keep planting flowers and building excess projects with the millions upon millions that students
pay to become enlightened at a 'destination school'....this university has a champagne mouth yet a beer
wallet when it comes to the students

graduation speakers, UGA manages to recruit better speakers. Why, at such an important institution, are we
not making an effort to connect important figures to our campus?
525. Clayton LaForge (12/4/06) - He seems like a nice guy in his emails, but that's really the only way in
which I've ever known him. For such a small school, that's a little disappointing

21/32

526. Lydia Moore (12/4/06) 527. Rachel Harrison (12/4/06) - graduation speechs are all so hackneyed that it takes a truly talented orator
to make a memorable one...my vote goes to Clinton (again!)
528. Joe Casper (12/4/06) - I've never heard anything so absurd... except for that time I got kicked off
campus and had to find an apartment in the middle of finals. The people who are given the power to make
decisions around have become a joke.

539. Jared Finkel (12/4/06) 540. Jessica Lloyd (12/4/06) 541. Brian Platt (12/4/06) - So, a pirate walks into a bar, and the bartender goes "Hey you got a ships wheel
in your pants" and the pirate goes "arrrrr, its drivin me nuts!!!" classic.
542. Song Yi Kwak (12/4/06) 543. Serene Al-Kawas (12/4/06) - lame.
544. wayne brady (12/4/06) - I hate dave chappelle
545. david mandelbaum (12/4/06) 546. Matthias Whitson (12/4/06) - dido to Clinton.
547. Luke Anderson (12/4/06) 548. Ben Sheehan (12/4/06) - First I get screwed with parking passes and over 1000 bucks in parking fines
thus far, mostly for standing by the lib w/ flashers. Then my fraternity gets kicked off campus mid-finals. Then
my CAS petition gets denied for no apparent reason. Then they continue to charge me for 'damages' over a
year after I moved out of the former Pike house. Now I can't even get a famous face to questionably reassure
that I'll succeed in my future endeavors. Emory, you have done pretty much everything possible to make me

22/32

never want to donate a dime once I throw my cap in the air. Congratulations.

seniors. I think we deserve a guest speaker

graduation.

652. Devin Carey (12/5/06) 653. Christina Murdock (12/5/06) - What gets a school press at graduation time is an amazing speaker:

does this?

738. Heather B (12/8/06) 739. Katherine Rodby (12/8/06) - While I think President Wagner had done a great job, butmy entire family
will be at graduation, and this is Emory's one chance to show how amazing it can be and that the 40K a year
was worth it. If Emory wants to get its name out there, then bring in one of those big names so we will be
listed in the news along with all those other school who have Pres. Clinton and Bill Cosby. Pres. Wagner can
speak at class day.
740. Lawrence Morano (12/8/06) - I respect President Wagner, but what is he going to tell us that we already
do not know . He is as much a part of the Emory bubble world as we are. I want a real keynote speaker.
Someone who will give us something to think about and build upon in the years to come. Someone with an
outside perspective of this so-called great institution. Stop spending money on ridiculous statues and give us
a real speaker...and some more computers in the library!
741. Sahiti Karempudi (12/9/06) 742. MarcThalheim (12/9/06) 743. Adam Block (12/9/06) 744. Philip May (12/9/06) - President Wagner, while being highly respected, will not be a big enough draw for
Emory to get it's name out there and become the "destination university" it is striving to become.
745. Amanda Kirzner (12/9/06) 746. Christiana Rattazzi (12/9/06) 747. Anya Labell (12/9/06) 748. Hillary Hanson (12/9/06) - Having Pres. Wagner as the only speaker undermines the importance of
graduation day. The school obviously has all the money in the world, why not try to make it a more
memorable and inspirational day?

Lindsay Pertz (12/14/06) - I respect President Wagner, and he is a great leader of our school, but as an
alum of Emory, I think it is totally disrespectful to not have an external speaker as well. It is an important part
of graduation and shows the pride and excellence we have in Emory compared to other universities. To not
