Paragraph Assignment 5
Quito needs more bicycle lanes on the roads. To support this idea, in 2018, the Ministry
of Mobility carried out a study to observe how Quito citizens move, documenting nearly
500,000 vehicles that transit (Quitocomovamos; 2021). In addition, the pollution
produced by vehicles must be considered; each car emits an amount of 0.0304 for every
km it travels of an aggressive element for the health, known as PM2.5 (El Comercio,
2021). However, to reach citizens motivated by cycling, it is necessary to build a space
suitable for cyclists, and this implies a large investment of money, according to Diario
El Comercio, USD 465.00 is needed (El Comercio; 2018), but trust in giving this
amount of money to mayors and politicians, it’s very low among the citizens due to the
present corruption. We can find the case of the construction of the 12.7 km bike lane on
Simón Bolívar, becoming a successful project that continues to serve everyone. To
improve circulation, it’s essential to think of plans with clear objectives, and know how
to focus the result for the benefit of all, having the health of the "Quiteños" as a priority.
