LESSON 8: HOW TO INTERPRET THE BIBLE

As Lifegroup mentors, it is our responsibility to interpret the Bible correctly. Destruction awaits those who
distort the truth as stated in 2 Peter 3:16.
“He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things
that are hard to understand, which ignorant, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other
Scriptures, to their own destruction.”
So, to help us, here are 7 ways that will serve as guides in carerfully, properly and correctly interpret the Bible.

1. _________________ the passage

The “Context” of the verse means the verses found just before and after the text. The meaning must
be gathered from the context. Every word read must be understood in the light of the words that come
before and after it.

The rule is “A text without a context is only a ____________.” A pretext is a false reason or motive that
has been given to hide the real one.

It is impossible to understand any statement without considering its context that may lead us to wrong
interpretation.

2 Types of Context:

A. ______________ context
