"DESIGN,ANALYSIS &
FABRICATION OFSHAFT DRIVEN
BICYCLE"

A shaft-diven bicycle is a bicycle that uses a drive shaft instead of a

The use of bevel gears allows the axis of the drive torque from the pedals to be turmed

torque change of axis.

3.Brief Literature Review:

Abstract:In the shaft drive cycles the Drive shafts are carriers of torque, they are subject to

torsion and shear stress, which represents the difference between the input force and the load.

They thus need to be strong enough to bear the stress, without im posing too great
an

additional inertia by virtue of the weight of the shaft. Most automobiles today use rigid
driveshaft to deliver power from a transmission to the wheels. A pair of short driveshaft is

central differential, transm ission, transaxie to the

commonly used to send power from a or

wheels.

Materials: ASTM AJ6 mild steel is used. 1his mild carbon steel grade contains chemical
alloys that give it propertics such as machinability, ductility, and strength that are ideal for
use in constructing a variety of structures
Procedure: The job involved is the design for the suitable drive shaft and replacement of
chain drive smoothly to transmit pawer from
pedal to the wheel without slip. It needs only a
less maintenance. It is cost effective. Drive
shaf strength is more and also its diameter is less.
The both ends of the shaft are fitted with a bevel
pinion, the bevel pinion is engaged with a
crown and power is
tran smitted to the rear wheel through the drive shaft.

4. Scope and motivation: The shaft driven bicycle would replace the existing
conventional bicycle which nuns by means of chain and
sprocket arrangement.
the manual load is
given by the rider which results in increased
displacement of the bicycle
in which the human effort is
reduced.
It would be very
advantageous for off road racing. It also requires less maintenance with a
comparatively longer life.
This sy stem can be
implemented for the high power vehicles, which are run by engines. This
would definitely be a better transmission system and can be implemented for bikes.

8.Expected outcome
The presented work was aimed to reduce the
wastage of human power on bicyle riding or
any machine which
employs drive shafls; in general, it is achieved
shaft with bevel gears on both sides by using light weight drive
designed on
replacing chain transmission.
The presented work also deals with design
motion with aid of two bevel
optimization converting rotary motion in linear
gears.
