Q3: A civil engineer is working for 20 years in a consulting company and has long experience of
designing river dams. In all year of his experience, he has designed dams with cement, concrete, steel
and other traditional materials. He is supposed to be expert in his area and has been promoted to the
post of “Chief Technical Manager”. Some new engineers of this company has designed a new dam
using new type of materials that are prepared using latest technology (such as nanotechnology) and
these new materials are assumed to be superior than the existing materials. Although he has no
experience with these materials, he is asked to sign off on the dam design plans because he is the
responsible officer of the company.

According to the codes of ethics, should the chief technical manager should sign plans? Justify your

“Parallelepiped” shape package with length = 100 cm, height = 50 cm, depth = 40 cm. If you have to
send a rod of length ‘x’ by the cargo company, what will be the maximum length of the rod that can
fit in this package. Solve this problem, by stating all the steps (i.e. draw a figure, label what is known
