Different Metal sheet product that has been slit and stretched to a wide array of diferent
shaped openings are called Expanded Metal. Steel expanded metal offers savings in weight
and metal, free passage of light, liquid, sound and air, while providing a decorative or
ornamental effect. World
0.5 mm to 6mm and maximum opening is 75mm in height & width is 200mm. As
against this Sugam Engineers having facility to manufacture minimum 0.5mm
thickness to maximum thickness upto 12mm. The maximum height is 300 mm and
Width upto 500 mm, “expanded metals” is produced in various metals like Steel,
Stainless steel, Copper, Brass, Aluminum, ACP ( Aluminum Composite panel)
itanium and also polycarbonate with shapes like Hexagonal, Square, Diamond
shape & Decorative Shapes.
‘expanded metal sizes are maximum thicknessis fromThe Expanded Metal is formed from a single piece of
metal sheet without wastage
Expanded Metal products are produced fram solid sheets of
Aluminium, MS, SS, Copper, Brass, Titanium &
Polycarbonate. In this process the sheet is simultaneously slit
and stretched, expanding the slts into diamond & other
shaped holes of uniform size, shape, regularity & giving
perfect geometrical shape. No Wastage is produced in this
process. This provides cost savings, especially compared to
other metal processing methods. There is nothing to work
loose, no fretting strands or strained joins or welds which
makes expanded metals ideal for forming and beneficial to
further processing such as pressing and shearing. The
strength of mesh makes it valuable for use in multiple
components.
Higher strength-to-weight ratio than sheet metal
Higher strength-to-weight ratio is the major advantage of
the expanded metals providing stronger per kilogram and
lighter per metre than the original sheet.
Practical and effective Screening
Taking a sample of mesh and looking through at various
angles bes illustrates the visual properties of expanded
metal meshes. Wide strand meshes are used in
architectural solar screens on the exterior of buildings and
throughout interiors for decorative grilles.
OI
Rollable
Expanded metals also had unique feature is that
rollable for easy to transport and also use in the roll
form for some architectural design applications.Anti-Slip Surface
The uncut knuckles of the expanded mesh withstand
stress better than welds or joints and also give sound
grip underfoot, particularly when used in staircase,
ramps and walkways. Some patterns have a type of
mesh with special qualities that not only make the
surface non-skid, but also give the expanded metal
water and wind repellent qualities.
Expanded metal mesh can be combined with other
materials to give products added strength. For
example, glass, plastics and other composites can
be either incorporated into, or attached to, meshes
for increased strength and security purposes or
aesthetics.
Looking through expanded Metals, the various
angles best illustrates the visual ‘properties of
expanded metal meshes. Wide strand meshes are
used in architectural solar screens on the exterior of
buildings and throughout interiors for decorative
grilles.
Can be Deep Drawn
Expanded Metals can easily be bent, cut, folded,
rolled & deep drawn as per the required works as
shown in the pictures below. They allow more air
through them unlike metals sheets. With varieties
of expanding metals, they look more attractive.
Weldable
Expanded metal can be weldable using MIG, ARC,
GAS etc.
Cuttable
Expanded metals can be cut in either in shearing
or plasma cutting for various shapes and sizes for
different applications.Foldable
Expanded metals can fold in any form, any size, for
various applications in architectural designs.

Expanded Metals can be supplied in different openings,
type Tortoise-shaped or hexagonal shape; flattened diamond or hexagonal shape; and some
‘special shapes or designs.
Standard Diamond:
Rhombic Shape is the standard expanded metal
products, also named diamond shaped. Can be
made froma wide range of metal materials.
Flattened:
This kind of expanded mesh finds similar
application as perforated metals as fences,
construction or building decoration.
Heavy Type Hexagon Shape:
Also known as Tortoise-shaped expanded metal
mesh. A kind of heavy-type expanded metal,
reinforced compared with the regular diamond
shaped expanded sheets.123456789ll12345Patterns TypesPes Nate Sh

Knuckles: A knuckle is the intersection of two strands ands always the width of two strands,
Thickness: Thickness the actual measurement of the thickness of the mesh material measured at the knuckles.
‘'SWM: SWM is the distance from a point on a knuckle to a corresponding point on the following knuckle measured
across the short way of the diamond shaped hole. This distance is also sometime referred to as “Pitch” SWM.
LWM: LWM is the distance from a point on a knuckle to a corresponding point on the following knuckle measured
across the long way of the diamond shaped hole, This distance is also sometime referred to as “Pitch” LWM.
‘SW: SW is the overall dimension of the expanded metal sheet measured in the same direction as the short way
measure (SWM)
LW: LW is the overall dimension of the expanded metal sheet measured in the same direction as the long way
measure (LWM).
Strand Width
KnuckleCommon Expanded Metal Terms
Some of the simple and common terms used to describe expanded metal are briefly
covered below. These terms are useful to know when choosing and ordering the product.
Raised Expanded Metal
Raised Expanded Metal
Raised Expanded metal is the form the product takes when it goes through the expanding
process described earlier. The strands and knuckles are set at a uniform angle to the plane
ofthe sheet. This adds strength and rigidity, allows air circulation, and distributes the load
‘onthe metalto the supporting frames. No additional pressing operations are needed.
PE eri Mc
Flattened Expanded Metal
Flattened expanded metal is manufactured by passing a raised metal sheet through an
additional cold roll reducing mill process. By flattening the sheet the knuckles and strands
are tumed down to produce a smooth and flat surface, reducing the overall thickness and
‘elongating the diamond pattem.
Free Air Space
Free air space is the preference of the viewable expanded sheet area that is space, as
‘opposed to metal material. Approximate values are provided in the product selection chart.
Values for raised expanded metal vary from lowest value at normal incidence (i.e. when
viewed with the sheet held at right angles to the line of vision) to the highest value at
maximum incidence (i.e. when viewed with the sheet slanting so that the thickness of
strand is parallel to the line of vision, thus presenting a greater free area). For flattened
metal only the value at normal incidence is given/relevant.fs

Flattened expanded metal:

Camber refers to the bow in sheet. Measured by placing a straight edge along the
concave side of the sheet parallel to LW, touching both ends of the sheet. The
maximum distance between the edge of the expanded metal and the straight edge is,
the camber.
Expanded metal sheets are not perfectly square when manufactured. Stock size
sheets and machine run bespoke size sheets will be produced to the following
tolerances.
Maximum out of square on edge of sheet Smm per 1 meter of length OR 10mm on
diagonals per square meter. Sheet must be re-squared by shearing on all sides for
squareness.
Reference to sheet size, strand width, thickness and weight are approximate only.
Whilst every effort is made for these figures to be accurate, expanded metal
manufactured and supplied is subject to our standard tolerance. We therefore reserve
the right o alter specification, ete., without notice._
