Verma® @, Vivek Rawat’, and Gauri Saxena” ‘Department of Botany, University of Lucknow, Lucknow, India; "Post Graduate Department of Botany, RD and D) College, University of Munger, Munger, India; (0.78); K* with Ca** (0,86) respectively. ‘The correlation matrix suggested a strong positive correl- ation between elements like Na*, K* and Ca" with carote- noids and Fet* and Zn‘! with Chl a+b, On the other hand, a negative correlation existed between photopigments and phenolic acids probably because the plant enjoys a func- tional nutrient status, and therefore secondary metabolites that are usually triggered during stress need not be produced in high quantities. Conclusion Present findings revealed that the metabolites (GA and FA) obtained from S. fenuifolium could be exploited in pharma- ceutical industries for benefit of human health. Additionally, this study indicates the importance of HPTLC fingerprint ana- Iysis of leaves, stem, and roots extracts of S. tenuifolivm that can be used as a phytochemical marker and a good estimator ‘of genetic variability in plant populations. ‘The photopigment analysis throws light on the photosynthetic ability and eff ciency of the plants at different altitudes in relation to their nutrient status that can be exploited as additional data for research labs and industries involved in the formulation of plant-based drugs. The study suggests that the metabolism of a plant is affected by abiotic factorlike altitude. ‘This study is fone of its kind to draw a correlation among secondary metab- lites, nutrient status, and photopigment contents in S. tenui folium growing at different altitudes, indicating its ‘therapeutic potential Acknowledgment “The authors are thankful to the Head, Department of Botany, and Luckow University for providing necessary research facilis Author contributions avi Prakash Srivastava designed the study and interpreted the results lay Singh helped with the assessment of photopigment analysis. NC [Nagpoore and P.C. Verma helped with the development of the experi ments.
