SDO LAGUNA STEM-P RESEARCH III WORKSHEET

QUARTER 1
Hi, there my dear student! Today, you and your classmates will begin a new week of distance learning. We are all physically away
from each other do not think that you are alone in this learning journey, other students are learning with you, too. And also I will closely guide
and assist you in your lessons. Please be guided by the following:
 This study guide will help you with the flow of the activity and the lesson.
 Answer the activities on a separate sheet of paper. (Please take care and do not write anything
on your module and other activity sheets.)
∙ If you see this icon you are free to reach me if you need my assistance. You can find my contact no. on
your class schedule. (You can also reach me out through social media platforms.)

 Expect to receive a phone call or a text message from me for the follow-up.
 Compile all your answer sheets at the end of the week and wait for the announcement when to submit them.

Time allotment: 4 hours/week Let us make learning research fun and exciting!

What you
need to learn?
At the end of the lesson:
Acquire insight about different research categories;
Determine the examples of research categories and;
Write a simple scientific report

Lesson: DIFFERENT RESEARCH CATEGORIES

READINGS

Lesson Steps
Science is based on research, which is commonly conducted by scientists working in
academic and research institutions, government agencies, and companies. The practical impact of
scientific research has led to the emergence of science policies that seek to influence the scientific
enterprise by prioritizing the development of commercial products, armaments, health care, public
infrastructure, and environmental protection.

Mathematics research is the long-term, open-ended exploration of a set of related

mathematics questions whose answers connect to and build upon each other. Problems are
open-ended because it continually come up with new questions to ask based on observations.
Additional characteristics of student research include:
Students develop questions, approaches, and results, that are, at least for them,
original products.
Students use the same general methods used by research mathematicians. They
work through cycles of data-gathering, visualization, abstraction, conjecturing, and proof.
Students communicate mathematically: describing their thinking, writing definitions
and conjectures, using symbols, justifying their conclusions, and reading mathematics.
When the research involves a class or other group, the students become a
community of mathematicians sharing and building on each other’s questions,
conjectures, and theorems.

Innovation involves looking for solutions – either to known, or sometimes to undefined needs.
There are gaps or white spaces in the market where new products or services can radically make a
difference to consumers or businesses while creating financial benefits to the creators.
Innovation research is not innovative. Rather it involves applying brainstorming, ideation,
product development
