C. Illustrate the color reactions of vegetable oil and lecithin under the Bromine water
test.

The presence of unsaturation in fatty acid or a triglycerol can be detected by

reaction with bromine. If the orange color of a bromine solution added to a lipid fades

quickly, an addition reaction has occurred and the oil or fat is unsaturated. Alkenes can
decolorized bromine water, but alkanes cannot. Due to saturated fatty acids having
double bonds, they can decolorize the bromine water while saturated does not.

D. Illustrate the color reactions of the following tests for Lipids: Molisch test and
Ninhydrin test.

E. In your own perspective, what is the importance of Lipids?

Lipids are also called fats to be simple, however at some point, we somehow
think that fats are bad to our health/body, we most likely focus on extent
disadvantages of it. If we go further to what really the importance of lipids, we, in some
ways, can understand and at least appreciate the importance and significance of lipids
to us, in our body. Lipids play vital different roles in human bodies: they serve as
structural components of cell membranes, function as energy storehouses – reserves
energy, like, when someone does the fasting, and function as important signaling
molecules. Lipids provide us protection; they serve as our insulators which give us the
maintenance of body temperature. Those provided roles and contributions are indeed
crucial, imagine if there are no fats adhered in our body, probably/ definitely our cells
wouldn’t be able to survive, whereas, these lipids are considered to be the building
blocks of cells. To emphasize, lipids have an important role in everyone’s growth,
development, and maintenance of tissues.
