Can be used on
Swivels Category 1 rotation-
resistant rope
Sheaves
Drums
Drums with lagging benefit spooling of rope but require tight tolerance for the
oversize of wire ropes.
Recommended rope lays for a smooth drum or single layer grooved drum
Rope End Terminations Wire rope end terminations
Connection method and rating include:
efficiency specified by: Forged-base wire rope clips
LHE manufacturer Mechanical splice Flemish eye
Rope manufacturer or loop back swaged eye
Measure rope diameter in numerous locations to assess loss of diameter along the entire length of rope.
Removal Criteria: Reduction from nominal diameter greater than 5% at any location.
Inspection, Removal Criteria & Records 30-1
Section 30-1.8
Inspection and Removal Criteria
Removal Criteria: Steel core protrusion between the outer strands, kinking, severe doglegs (minor doglegs should be noted in inspection documents, changes in
original geometry due to crushing where minimum dimension across the distorted section is less than or equal to 5/6 of the nominal diameter.

Gross damage/deterioration of
end connections
Heat or electrical damage
Chemical or UV degradation
Changes of diameter
Changes of lay length
Local twisting
