Welcome to this weeks newsletter. LINC and The Cork Gay Project are delighted with this years nomination for the 'All Island Pride of Place Awards 2011'. The judging will take place on Thursday evening July 14th at 6.30pm, starting in LINC and moving to The Other Place. The Pride of Place Competition recognises and celebrates the vital contributions that community partnerships make to Irish society. The focus is on people coming together to shape, change and enjoy all that is good about their local area. It differs from other similar projects in that they specifically recognise the involvement of the local community in all aspects of rural and urban regeneration including, promoting social cohesion, involvement in planning, the promotion of heritage and environmental awareness. Please note that LATE LINC will still be operating as normal tomorrow until 8pm.

Camp has started and has gotten off to a great first week. The weather has been fab with the rain staying well away. It is on until the 27th of July so there is still time to get on down there! If you need any details or directions please call or email us in LINC.

Summer Camp Is Go! There is a fabulous line up for the childrens summer camp. The camp runs from the 25th -29th July inclusive and is being run by two experienced co-ordinators. Starting on Monday with an arts day, the first tour on Tuesday is a survival skills course at Will and Away. Wednesday is sports/picnic day hosted by guest coordinators Ryan and Veronica at Fitzgeralds Park. Talent show practice continues apace Thursday, followed by a trip to the Glen Resource Centre rope park and zip wire! Friday is party day- the children will make their own barbeque for lunch, followed by their own talent show and disco. Wet gear should be brought for Tuesday and Thursday. Runners on Wednesday (and a raincoat!). Cost for the week is 50 euro per child, or for those who cant make the full week Tuesday tour only 25euro or Thursday tour only 15 euro.

Movie Night is happening Tuesday the 25th of July. The movie will be starting at 6.30. Film Title to be announced. The aim of the night is to be funny and light hearted. So come along for popcorn and refreshments and hang out and have a laugh.

Chilled out Community members. Acupuncture is really going well and there are places most weeks. Just give Emma or Tina a call to ensure a place is set aside for you. Tuesday 7pm is the time over in The Other Place. We are going to become the most chilled out Community in Cork and beyond and thats no bad thing. Phoenix Youth Global Fest is happening in The Peace Park on this coming Saturday so if you are in town and want to support the inaugural Rap of the Phoenix Group then head on in around 3pm. The festival is on from 12 until 5 but we have an approximate time of 3 for the Rap to take place. Good luck to Phoenix as we know how much work you have put into the project and we have already heard how brilliant you are so get out there and lets hear it for the girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Book Club The next Book Club meeting is on Tuesday August 9th at 7pm and you will be more than welcome. The book being read for the next meeting is: The Best of Everything by Rona Jaffe This frank portrayal of four very different women working in the Manhattan publishing and theatre worlds in the 1950s caused a sensation when the book first appeared in 1958. Todays readers will enjoy Jaffe's evocative depiction of a society in which women could be labelled old maids at 25, as well as her perceptive characterisation and skillful storytelling. Rumour has it...if you like Madmen then you'll love this book.

We have decided to postpone these workshops due to lack of numbers. We will however look at running them again in the Autumn if we can gather enough people. So perhaps this isnt quite the time for budding artists but hopefully you will re-emerge from the summer sunshine to join us at a later stage!

Drawing Workshops

More and more people are availing of the late opening each Thursday. LINCs garden in the Summer Evenings is a lovely space so make it yours! Emma, Tina or Karla will be here to meet you and have a cuppa out the back or if you prefer to just use the garden for a bit of peace we wont invade your space. Now the only difficulty here is if there are a few people around you may have to lock yourself in the shed for quiet time! On a serious note we have 2 other rooms in LINC which can be utilised so head in and say hello.

New report highlights LGBT discrimination A new report by the Commissioner for Human Rights will confirm that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people face severe discrimination throughout Europe The commissioners report, published on Thursday 23 June, is the largest ever study on homophobia, trans phobia and discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity in the 47 member states of the Council of Europe. It will reveal that the lives of LGBT people are blighted by media stereotyping, family ostracism and violent hate crimes. Although 20 states have enacted anti-discrimination legislation on sexual orientation, homophobic or Trans phobic attitudes and biased, out-dated and misconceived ideas prevail in every Council of Europe member state. Some 12 countries still ban gay pride events. In other states, people have to be sterilised or divorced before they are allowed gender re-assignment. Thomas Hammarberg, the Commissioner for Human Rights, will tell governments that they should now take a strong position against violence towards LGBT people and promote equality and fairness. Hammaberg will also demand comprehensive national legislation across Europe in line with international human rights law.

The LGBT Parenthood Survey is seeking to identify the experiences and needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) parents and those planning to be parents in Ireland. This is the first time that a study of this nature has been carried out in Ireland and our aim is to build up a picture of these experiences so that we can inform service provision and policy changes for LGBT parents and those planning to be parents. The findings from the survey will be published and widely disseminated to Government and relevant State bodies, NGOs and advocacy groups, both mainstream and LGBT, to assist them in effecting positive change for LGBT parents and those planning parenthood. The study findings will be shared with all LGBT organisations in Ireland and in particular support groups and organisations to assist them in meeting the needs of the community We are currently looking for participants to complete an anonymous survey. You are invited to participate if you: Identity as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender person. Are a parent or you are planning to be a parent. (The term parent includes biological and non-biological parents, guardians, adoptive parents and foster parents, living with or separately from our child/children of all ages) Aged 18 years and over Living in the Republic of Ireland

You cannot be identified by this survey and all of the information you give us will be anonymous and confidential. How can I participate? Galway Prides 22nd consecutive Pride Parade on Saturday 20th August 2011. The parade starts from outside the Town Hall Theatre, gathering at 2pm. Galways Pride Parade is the longest consecutive running parade in Ireland. The parade is a celebration of diversity and culture, a show of pride and a call for equality. Many groups, statutory and community organisations, families and friends join us every year in a show of solidarity and support and every year the Pride Parade gets bigger and better.
