ENERGY
(3 hours)

Title: What is energy?

Learning Competencies: Identify the common forms of energy.
Learning Objectives: (a) Describe energy.
(b) Differentiate the different forms of energy.
CONCEPT NOTES
In physics, energy is the quantitative property that must be transferred to a body or
physical system to perform work on the body, or to heat it.
Energy is a conserved quantity, the law of conservation of energy states that energy
can be converted in form, but not created or destroyed.
The Sun is the ultimate source of energy for most of life on Earth. It derives its energy
mainly from nuclear fusion in its core, converting mass to energy as protons are
combined to form helium. This energy is transported to the sun’s surface and released
into space (mainly in the form of radiant or light energy.
Common forms of energy include:
 Kinetic energy of a moving object
 Potential energy stored by an object’s position in a force field (gravitational,
electric or magnetic)
 Elastic energy stored by stretching solid objects
 Chemical energy released when a fuel burns
 Radiant energy carried by light
 Thermal energy due to an object’s temperature
ENERGY LITERACY … (refer to attachment)
STUDENTS ACTIVITY
1. To search about the common forms of energy as mentioned during the
discussion and differentiate one from the other.
2. Write a summary of the material that you have to read and understand about
“Energy Literacy: Essential Principles and Fundamental Concepts for Energy
Education.”

Answer
1. Common forms of energy
 Kinetic energy of a moving object
 Potential energy stored by an object’s position in a force field (gravitational,
electric or magnetic)
 Elastic energy stored by stretching solid objects
 Chemical energy released when a fuel burn
 Radiant energy carried by light
 Thermal energy due to an object’s temperature

2. Energy Literacy is an understanding of the nature and role of energy in the universe and in our
lives. Human is also needs an energy because how can we survived without energy, there’s a lot
of different ways to work of energy just like for this example solar panel is a benefit to people to
save electricity bill or should I say you have nothing to pay for it because you only use the solar
panel. You can do whatever you want in your house because your house is already connected at
the solar panel. Only needs of the Solar Panel is the heat of the sun to make it works.
