SIEVE ANALYSIS

Sieve analysis is also known as particle size distribution( grading).

Quartering refers to the process of obtaining a small relative quantity of sample by dividing a large quantities of
material into quarters ( four nearly equal parts) and combining the two opposite parts , then dividing then combiningthe
several rounds until a small representative is obtained.

Riffling is the process of obtaining a small representative quantity of sample by dividing a large quantity of materialby
using riffle box which divides the material into two equal parts . Then one of the obtained two parts is poured again into
the slots until the desired quantity is obtained.

Percent retained on each sieve was calculated

% retained= ×

Percent passing on each sieve was calculated

CONCRETE WORK FOR BLIDING

Concrete refers to the mixture of binding material, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate and water. Coarse
aggregates may be natural or crushed stone, ranging in size between 5mm to 25mm, and the fine aggregates
usually natural sand ranging in size between 0.6mm to 2.0mm.The water used should be fresh as the one that is
suitable for human consumption. Concrete is strong in compression but weak in tension. Concrete was graded
according to their strength.

Concrete work: concrete for blinding was weak class 15 in the ratio 1:3:6 which was done under following
procedures
• Batching:refers to the process of measuring different concrete materials such as cement, coarse aggregate,
sand, water for making concrete.
• Mixing: In this process all the materials are mixed in required proportion until the paste show the uniform
colour and consistency by using concrete mixer.
• Transportation: When mixing was done properly the freshly made concrete was then transported to the
intended site.
• Compaction: refers to the process in which air bubbles are eliminated from the freshly placed concrete in
order to increase the strength of concrete.
• Curing: is the process in which the concrete keeps its moisture for a certain time period to complete the
hydration process.
