Direction: Identify/Discuss/Explain the following in not less than 200 words per question. Be
guided by the Rubrics.

1. How do politics affect public personnel administration?

2. The public sector HR Managers have an obligation to effectively manage a diverse


workforce. Discuss why this is so important in the public sector, the value of diversity for
an organization, and how managing diversity and complying with anti-discrimination
laws are not the same.

3. Case Analysis: When you joined the agency as Human Resource Manager, you found out
that absenteeism was out of control, causing problems to the management. Costs were
rising, productivity was falling, and an unfair added work was being placed on
employees who come to work every day. The records showed that about 15 percent of
the employees are often absent. The agency has no clear-cut attendance control policy,
nor was there a formal policy to discipline workers for excessive absences. As the HR
manager, what would you do to resolve the problems? What steps will you undertake to
formulate a policy to deal with these problems? What kind of policy will be developed
to prevent employee absenteeism and increase productivity?
4. With relevant examples, differentiate mentoring with coaching in relation to their
application in modern organizations.
