At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
a. Identify technical and operational definitions;
b. Classify technical and operational words/phrases used in the text; and
c. Give technical and operational definitions.

Materials: Powerpoint presentation, laptop, and television

E. ABSTRACTION
Technical definition is a detailed description of a term, process, or phenomenon. It is
used in specific fields or profession that describes or explains technical terminology. The
specialized words which belong or relate to a particular subject, like the practical,
mechanical, or industrial arts or the applied sciences might be unknown to the audience
but essential in understanding the author’s idea.

Operational definition describes the concept in terms of observable and measurable


characteristics in actual practice. It characterizes exactly what the variables are and how
they are measured within the context of an item or phenomenon, making its meaning
dependent on how they are
used in the discourse.
