I. PRELIMINARIES

Course Title : SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Course Credit : 3 units
Time Allotment : 3 hours a week x 18 weeks= 54 hours/semester
Pre-requisite : None
Course Description : Social Entrepreneurship is an emerging and rapidly changing business field that examines the practice of identifying, starting
and growing successful mission-driven for profit and nonprofit ventures, that is, organizations that strive to advance social change through innovative
solutions. This course is designed to provide a socially relevant academic experience in order to help students gain in-depth insights into economic and social
value creation across a number of sectors/areas including poverty alleviation, energy, health and sustainability. Through case studies, lectures, and classroom
dialogue, students will learn to think strategically and act opportunistically with a socially-conscious business mindset. The course will expose students to
theory regarding entrepreneurship, models of social change, definitions of social entrepreneur and social entrepreneurship, management skills required for
social entrepreneurial organizations, scaling of social impact, and impact measurement for social mission organizations.

VII. COURSE REQUIREMENT:

Case Analysis. Students will be grouped and will be given cases that they will analyze, share and discuss in front of the class before the term ends.

Case Study. Students are required to write and present a case study on a real-life social entrepreneurial organization which the students have identified
during the course of the semester. The case study should relate the theory - in both entrepreneurship and social change – which has been covered in the course to the
practical situations of the social entrepreneurial organization described in the case study. Students should also demonstrate accomplishment of the course learning
objectives through the text of the case study.
The case study has two parts-each and enumerated as follows:

Part One: Summary


1. Include an introduction to the social entrepreneurial organization as well as its areas of work and major accomplishments.
2. Describe how the organization fits into the theoretical intersection of entrepreneurship and social change.
3. Analyze what sets this organization apart as a social entrepreneurial organization rather than a social service provider or organization practicing social
activism.

Part Two: Evaluation


5. Describe a clear problem(s)/challenge(s)/opportunity(ies) that the organization has dealt with.
6. Describe how the organization was able to solve (or not) the problem(s), including an analysis of the appropriateness of the solution(s).
7. Relate how the organization has taken its innovative solution(s) to scale, and the scope and depth of that scale.
8. Analyze key issues that have had to be taken into account in the management of the social entrepreneurial organization.
9. Outline the programmatic and financial sustainability of the organization.
10. Evaluate how the organization measures its impact, and the appropriateness of the impact measurement methodologies utilized.
11. Conclude by summing up the main points of the case study.

Tentative Final Grade is multiplied by 2 + the Mid Term Grade divided by 3. Highest passing rate is 1.00 and the lowest is 3.00. Failure to comply with any
of aforementioned criteria means a failing grade of 5.00.

XI. CLASSROOM POLICIES:


Attendance
1.1. Students are expected to attend their classes regularly. A student is considered absent from class if he is not present within the first fraction of the
scheduled class time.
1.2. A student is considered late or tardy and shall receive a half absence if he arrives in class during first third fraction of the scheduled class time.

1.3. Students with 3 or more consecutive absences without prior notice or written consent form his/he parents or guardian will automatically be dropped
from the class.
Uniform
2.1 Students are required to wear proper uniform when attending classes. Male students will wear prescribed polo and slacks pants, black shoes and ID.
Female students will wear prescribed blouse and skirt on knee level, black close shoes with a recommendatory 1 inch heels, and ID. On Fridays, student
should wear the required departmental shirt of the college.
2.2 Aside from the official uniforms mentioned above, no other uniform will be accepted like PE and NSTP uniforms.
2.3 Students who attended classes not wearing proper and prescribed uniform will be instructed to fill-up some forms in the guidance office and talk to the
guidance coordinator of the college. Their attendance will not be considered but they may still be accepted in the class after they have accomplished the
form given by the guidance coordinator of the college.
Other Norms
3.1 Cheating in any form is not allowed in all the course requirements, like exercises, assignments, quizzes, term exam and research work. As reflected in the
students’ handbook, students caught on cheating will be given an automatic grade of 5.0.
3.2 The student may be dropped from subject depending on the gravity of the offense.
3.3 Use of cellphones and tablets is not allowed during classes. Gadgets will be confiscated for a day for those students caught on using such things during
classes.
3.4 Students are expected to maintain silence inside the class. If a student is disrupting the class he may be sent out of the class room and instructed to fill-up
some forms in the guidance office and talk to the guidance coordinator of the college. His/ Her unruly behavior will be recorded.
3.5 Student should maintain the cleanliness of the classrooms. Deduction in the students’ scores will be given if found guilty of loitering and unmindful of
trash in his or her surroundings.
3.6 Eating inside the room while the class is going on are not allowed.
3.7 Special quizzes and late submission of requirements will be allowed only on the condition that the student were sick and presented a medical certificate
the moment he or she get back to school.
