Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Prayer
“Good morning. Kindly stand up for the prayer.
Please lead the prayer Desiree.”
“Let’s bow our head and let us feel the presence of
the lord. In the name of the father, the son the holy
spirit. Lord thank you for today for taking care of us,
thank you also for your guidance and sorry for our
sins, bless us all Lord every day in Jesus name we
Greetings pray. Amen.”
“Thank you, Desiree. Good morning”
before anything else prepare your pen and paper.”
 Okay ma’am.
Motivation
(Present a short video about the Measure of Position)

“When we proceed to our topic, let me present a short

video for you. Please take down notes and tell me what
you have learned about this video.”
 Yes ma’am.

“So, what do you think our lesson, or I will discuss for (Call a student)
today?”  Our lesson for today is about Measure of
Position.

“What are the 3 measures of position?”

(Call another student)
 The three measures of position are quartiles,
deciles, and percentile.
Lesson Proper
“Now in the video that I present to you our topic for today
is Measure of position. The measure of position is a
method by which the position that a particular data value
has within a given data set can be identified. The
descriptive measures which are used to locate position of
values or scores in distribution are quartiles, deciles, and
percentiles.”
Quartiles – are the score points which divide and ordered
data into quarters.

25% of the data has a value ≤ Q1, or 75% of a value ≥ Q1.

50% of the data has a value ≤ Q2, or 50% of a value ≥ Q2.
75% of the data has a value ≤ Q3, or 25% of a value ≥ Q3.

“Are we clear?”
“Okay let us proceed to the examples of quartile”
 “Yes ma’am”

Example #1
The following illustrates the scores of 7 students in a short
quiz given by their Math teacher. Each quartile is
illustrated.

Example #2
The table below shows the summary for the three-point
shot that Marlo has successfully shoot for each basketball
match that their team played. Explain each quartile.

-Q1: Marlo had successfully shoot at least 3 three-point

shots in 75% of the basketball matches.

(Let the student complete the sentence.)

“Desiree, please continue and complete the sentence”
(Write in the paper)
 Q2: Marlo had successfully shoot at least 6
three-point shots in 50% of the basketball
matches.
 Q3: Marlo had successfully shoot at least 10
three-point shots in 25% of the basketball
matches.

“Very Good!”

“Now, we can proceed to the deciles, please read the

definition of the deciles Desiree.”
 “Okay ma’am” - Desiree

Deciles- divide the distribution into ten equals parts. The

deciles denoted as D1 (first decile), D2 (second decile), D3 (third
decile), up to D10 (tenth decile).

“This is the illustration of deciles”

Illustration of deciles:

Example #1
This illustrates the sales (in thousands of pesos) of the 13
products sold by an online seller for the quarter of the
year.

-D2 means that 20% of the sales is equal to or less than

Php 3000.
-D3 means that 30% of the sales is equal to or less than
Php 4000.

(Let the student complete the sentence base on their

understanding.)
(Write in the paper)
 D5 means that 50% of the sales is equal to or
less than Php 6000.
 D6 means that 60% of the sales is equal to or
less than Php 7000.
 D8 means that 80% of the sales is equal to or
less than Php 8000.
“Very Good!”
“Now, we can proceed to the percentile, please read the
definition of the percentile Desiree.”
 “Okay ma’am” - Desiree
Percentiles divide the distribution into one hundred equal
parts.
Let us illustrate percentiles and compare it with that of
quartiles and deciles by using the figure below.

“To better understand the percentile, let us study this

example.”

Example #1
Your height is 1.8 meters and you are the fourth tallest in
a group of 20. Use percentile to explain what it means?

-If you are the 4th tallest in a group of 20, it means that
80% of people are shorter than you.
This is also means that your height of 1.8 meters is in the
80% percentile height in the group.

“Do you understand how to explain percentile?”

(Let the student answer the next example.)

“Okay, answer this and explain it to me.”

 “Yes ma’am.
Application

During the Bulacan Provincial Meet, the 40 th percentile for

points scored in a basketball game by a player is 8 points.
What is the meaning of this 40th percentile?

 Means that 40% of the basketball players

scored 8 points or fewer
 Or 60% of the basketball players scored 8
points or more.
“Very good! You did well Desiree!”

“Please answer this activity it is only 10 items. I will give

you 10 minutes to answer that. Did you understand?”

 “Yes ma’am”
IV. Activity
Direction: Find out how much you have learned about the topic. Choose the letter of the best answer.

a. 35th b. 50th c. 25 th d. 75 th

5. When a distribution is divided into ten equal parts, each score point that describes the distribution is
called __________?
a. percentile b. decile c. quartile d. median

6. It divides a set of data arranged in order of magnitude into four equal parts.
a. percentile b. decile c. quartile d. median

7. ___________ is the value which divides the set of data into one hundred equal parts.

a. 40 b. 60 c. 80 d. 100

V. Assignment:
Give the definition of Ungrouped Data in the quartile, decile, and percentile.
Give each formula.

VI. Reflection
At first, I was nervous because I didn't know what to do because it was my first-time teaching in high
school. I was conscious what the result of what I taught her would be, but I smiled because I didn't expect
that she would have learned something on me even if I was confused. It was easy for me because we just
finished semester and we studied it.

VII. Difficulty Encountered

- Conscious about the learner and how to discuss it because its first time.
- First time handling the module
