CHARLES DARWIN

Charles Darwin was a British naturalist who proposed the theory of biological
evolution by natural selection. Darwin defined evolution as "descent with
modification," the idea that species change over time, give rise to new species,
and share a common ancestor.

CHARLES DARWIN

The mechanism that Darwin proposed for evolution is natural selection. Because
resources are limited in nature, organisms with heritable traits that favor survival
and reproduction will tend to leave more offspring than their peers, causing the
traits to increase in frequency over generations.

Natural selection causes populations to become adapted, or increasingly

well-suited, to their environments over time. Natural selection depends on the
environment and requires existing heritable variation in a group.

The main reason why I like Charles Darwin is because Charles Darwin’s theories
hugely impacted scientific thought. But his ideas also affected the realms of
politics, economics, and literature. More insidious were the ways that Darwin’s
ideas were used to support theories such as social Darwinism and eugenics,
which used biological determinism to advocate for the elimination of people
deemed socially unfit. Although Darwin himself was an abolitionist, the social
Darwinist ideas inspired by his work contributed to some of the most racist and
classist social programs of the last 150 years,

1. How do discoveries impact the life of people in modern times? I think the
theory of evolution helped the researchers today in terms of studying living
things such as animals and humans. Theory of evolution has led to major
improvements in living standards, public welfare, health, and security. They have
changed how we view the universe and how we think about ourselves in relation
to the world around us. Biological evolution is one of the most important ideas of
modern science.

2. What would have happened to humankind if technology didn't exist?

Humankind will take thousands of years to progress since technology is vital in
our progress and helped us in so many possible ways.

3. Discuss whether technology is a means to an end or an end in itself. List down

pertinent points on your stand. I think technology is a double edged sword
mainly because technology has had so many positive outcomes and helped
humans in all aspects of life, but at the same time technology has caused a lot of
destruction in our world. Therefore I conclude that technology is both ways.
