The Perception of Unvaccinated People

towards COVID-19 Vaccines

INTRODUCTION
Vaccines are there to help people in this situation. Implementing the
government's vaccination can help people reach herd immunity these days.
However, somehow not all people accommodate nor accept these medications.
Thus, specific reasons need to be recognized or conceptualized immediately.

CONTEXT
Hesitancy came from different reasons. Including these three main
concern arguments present here in the locality of Bayabas, Surigao del Sur.
Development Scepticism of COVID-19 vaccines
Some people do not get their vaccines because they do not trust the
vaccines from the first place, since it was developed as quickly as it is compared
to several vaccines passed through by many years ahead. Many people
considered suspicious rumors or uncertain deceptions came from untrusted
individuals. Here in the locality of Bayabas Surigao del Sur, some people who do
not yet have vaccines are seniors with a firm stand, where they believe that
vaccines cannot help them out if they get COVID-19 virus sometimes.
According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases,
researchers were not starting from scratch when they learned about SARS-CoV-
2. This virus is one of the members of the coronavirus family that had almost
hundreds of variants. Dr. Eric J. Yager, an associate professor of microbiology at
Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Albany, NY, told MNT that
scientists had studied coronaviruses for more than 50 years and counting. It

means scientists had existing data on this type of virus's structure, genome, and
life cycle. Therefore, COVID-19 vaccines have been developed for almost 50
years of studying and producing the right vaccines based on their characteristics.
That is why scientists have developed the vaccines as of these days in less time
of coverage.
The number of respondents both unwilling and reluctant to receive a
vaccine underscores the challenges health officials still need to confront in
boosting demand for the highly scarce and coveted product. This comes on top
of issues in vaccine acceptance in the Philippines, which took a hit after
the Dengvaxia scandal in 2017, tanked immunization rates of public vaccination
programs largely done among the indigent sector. The Philippines so far has
been the last in the Southeast Asia region to start rolling out vaccines after
paperwork and limited global supply delayed the delivery of doses secured in
negotiations that started only sometime in November 2021.
Religious Belief
According to Rene F. Nagera Muslim religious came from Thailand and
Malaysia country, authorized and declared vaccines to be unacceptable since,
according to them, vaccines contain pork-derived products. In Islam, consuming
pork is forbidden. But here in the locality of Bayabas Surigao del Sur, most of
them are more into religions. Instead of having vaccines, they pretend and
believe that they can be avoided the virus by doing so, which does not work. We
believe in God, we know he can do everything for us to avoid the virus, we know
prayers are the best weapon for now. However, think about it: vaccines are in to
help us in a more specific way or, in a more common/present way. Suppose
prayers are the ultimate and more powerful weapon we have. In that case, we
need a supporting weapon that can be a good reinforcement here in our world to
ensure that we have much more elevated good possibilities to face uncertain
probability ahead.
Health-related concerns

Here in our locality, people do not get their vaccines because they have
different health problem concerns, which they think can be triggered if they get
vaccine shots, lately in an interview with Radyo Inquirer last January 20, 2022. A
vendor named Gemma Parina exposed her side by saying her stand related to
this regulation. She said she had a severe health problem that could be triggered
if she got vaccines, which she somehow has a sense of. According to World
Health Organization (WHO), if a person has a history of severe allergic
reactions/anaphylaxis to any of the ingredients of the COVID-19 vaccine, they
are recommended to consult their doctor or someone in the medical field to avoid
possible adverse effects before taking their vaccines. This regulation must be
visible here in our country. Instead of having COVID-19 vaccines for those with
severe allergies, give them immune booster shots that can also help them out if
they get contacted with the virus.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, people do not prefer to get vaccine shots because they do
not trust them. They claim that vaccines are not so effective since vaccines
developed as fast as they think. Nevertheless, people do not get their vaccines
because of some religious matters. Furthermore, people considered different
health-related concerns nor the side effects of COVID-19 vaccines after they get
those. Which rationale had a point to reason out. However, those perceptions
had already given different stands or evidence to prove and evaluate if those
perceptions are worth the attention or acceptance of others, especially humanity
these days.
Whatever the reasons, we should accommodate everyone to give and
provide a specific way to help others. Nevertheless, here is a brilliant way,
different vaccines for the COVID-19 virus are not harmful to have. These
vaccines are here to help us rather than to destroy us.

RECOMMENDATION
This policy is not intended to care for people regarding today's situation.
Indeed, it utilizes the high power of officials to control all Filipino's individuality.
Thus, if the government implements this kind of policy, it must first consider these
regulations.
• Government should give an alternative remedy for those who are not
capable of taking COVID-19 vaccines.
• Government should boost vaccination sites to increase the number of
vaccinated persons.
• The government should give a one-on-one orientation in every barangay
to give reliable information about the vaccines and ensure that everyone
gets reliable information instead of the opinion one.
• Lastly, the government should listen to other people's concerns to recreate
the best way to have.
