INTRODUCTION
OVERVIEW OF THE STUDY
Reading comprehension is the process of generating meaning through the coordination of several
complicated processes such as word reading, word and world knowledge, and fluency (Harris and
Graham, 2007). When readers are able to communicate with a text, they comprehend it. Reading
comprehension is the ability of a student to comprehend what the read words are, what is implied, or the
content of the read text or words; without understanding, students will be unable to comprehend anything
from their readings. This is especially crucial for Grade 10 students because they can utilize it a lot and
have even more difficult studies ahead of them, as well as new learners in college who can benefit from
it. With its assistance, a learner can better comprehend what he sees or reads and apply it to real-life
circumstances.
HISTORY OF THE PROBLEM
Reading is the process of pronouncing the words one by one. Comprehension is the interpretation of the
text that was presented. Meanwhile, the ability of summarizing the ideas and understanding the message
of the text that is trying to convey to the readers is called reading comprehension. Grade 10 students
under online learning increased their skills by using online learning material and following the instructions
given by the teachers. Therefore, reading comprehension played a major role in student’s daily life
communication and school related activities through online learning academics. All students learned to
study on their own and evaluate things they were not used to before due to mandatory community
quarantine brought by the COVID-19 virus that was started and declared by the world health organization
(WHO) in a year 2020, month of January 30th.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Specifically, the study aimed to answer the following questions:

1. What is the respondents’ profile in terms of reading comprehension.

2. What are the problems encountered during online learning.

3. What is the impact of online learning to the reading comprehension of Grade 10 students.

4. What are the practices/strategies they do/use to strengthen their reading comprehension.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
Do grade 10 students comprehend everything they're reading. In our fast-paced, fast-growing
society, professional teachers must help students become independent and effective. The study is all
about how effective the reading comprehension throughout this pandemic to a grade 10 students and
how reading comprehension may enhance their skills on reading. The Importance of this study is to know
how reading comprehension helps the students during this pandemic in terms of their skills on reading.

Distance learning often requires students to work more independently than they’re used to, so as their
teachers, we need to adjust the ways we help them read instructional texts. This study recommended that
the school administrators should initiate trainings, seminars and workshops about different strategies that
is timely to help their faculty members improve the reading comprehension of the students.

BODY
EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM
Reading comprehension is the ability to read and comprehend what you're reading, as well as decode the

symbols on the page both textually and sub textually, and form inferences based on prior knowledge.

Without reading comprehension student gain no meaning from what they read which may result in failing

school. Remember reading comprehension is very important to all because of it we gain new knowledge

from what we read. It is Important to focus on Grade 10 student’s reading comprehension so that they

can better interpret or better understand the information or the text that they read, especially since there

are many more situations they will encounter in the near future when they go to college, so they can

easily handle or understand information’s and situations.

EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM
Students are the most affected if their Reading Comprehension is lacking. If a student of 10th Grade is
having a problem on reading comprehension, he/she should go back to the lower level where he/she can
learn the basic steps on how to comprehend. Because this level the research begins and comprehension
is a must. Through reading comprehension the student can make connections between what they read
and what they already know and what they think about what they have read. Some of the students
doesn't like online learning due to pandemic. To increase reading comprehension across grade levels, an
early and continuous focus on establishing background knowledge, vocabulary, inference, and
comprehension monitoring abilities is required. Despite decades of study on reading comprehension, just
a small amount of time is spent in schools utilizing evidence-based strategies. To guarantee that teachers
are equipped to implement evidence-based strategies to address their students' literacy requirements,
education officials will need to expand teacher preparation programs and professional development.
CAUSE AND EFFECT
Because of online learning, having a great reading comprehension is especially important during this time
of pandemic. This will aid students in studying efficiently and effectively. Having a higher level of reading
comprehension only proves that students were able to gain knowledge from the materials they read. It
also shows that they are quick in understanding as they read. Being able to envision the ideas they have
read is also evidence of a having a great reading comprehension. Furthermore, having a great reading
comprehension makes the students explain things in their own words. Due to pandemic many of
students suffered a lot of problem caused by COVID-19 crisis students were unable to interact to each
other and also communicated but by the help of technologies students were able to communicate and
learned but some of students had some problems due to their internet connection, poor signal, etc. Due
to COVID-19 crisis. Because of reading comprehension makes it easier to comprehend the information
gathered or read. Also, reading comprehension expands a student’s understanding of his or her readable
information and texts.
REPERCUSSION OF THE PROBLEM
The major possible cause of having a problem on comprehension are, ADHD, dyslexia, limited

vocabulary, and working memory but some of the children who did not taught of what is the right way

speaking and understanding an alphabet letters and symbols are cause by poor living or have not enough

money to send their child to school reason why the age is not matched up on the skills that ordinary

person had. And it can lead to bullying brought by the bullying of some people who don’t know the reason

behind those condition. If students do not learn to read comprehensively, they may not gain knowledge or

learn from what they read, even if they are good at reading English, if they do not understand what they

are reading, they will not be able to expand their knowledge.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION
The possible solution to improve a person’s reading comprehension is case if he/she has a condition that

is not common for a student is to see a doctor and undergo a treatment. And for a student or persons who

wants to improve more on comprehending things, try to communicate as much as possible to the people

around you. If reading comprehension does not work on a student, try to persuade him/her to be active in

reading to enhance his/her skill and expand his/her understanding of objects, information and texts that

he/she read. Spending time reading books or text that can expand your knowledge and vocabulary or

watching a very informative video like documentation will also be possible solution to improve your

reading comprehension.
03
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION
Reading comprehension is a must to every individual especially to the students who mostly communicate

with teacher, classmates, and friends. Some of the students may have a problem on reading

comprehension but if we are going to help each other, there will possible that he/she could have the

confidence to comprehend what he/she is reading. Without comprehension, students cannot gain any

knowledge on what they encounter day by day especially on the communication. It may have greatest

impact on the youngest learners there are also some parents that aren't readers so it's hard for them to

teach their children well without proper comprehension skills that’s why reading comprehension is really

important to process your ability to comprehend a text, understand its meaning and integrate with what

the reader already knows.

CONCLUSION
Fundamental skills required in efficient reading comprehension are knowing meaning of words and

understanding meaning of a word from discourse context. There are many reading strategies to improve

reading comprehension, including improving one's vocabulary and critical text analysis.

Understanding is what drives us to be champions for ourselves and our family. Reading and

understanding through communication gives us the ability to make decisions in our life. The brain is an

incredible component of our bodies and lives. As a result of the prolonged period of educational

disruptions, reading comprehension among students are tested. Studying online was never easy, so an

extra effort is needed. In order to achieve smooth sailing learning, a high degree of reading

comprehension must be prioritized.

RECOMMENDATION
RECOMMENDATION
• Education starts at home. There may be a pandemic or none, as early as possible, parents should
train their children to read and learn. It is really essential to assess the students’ reading
comprehension on a regular basis. Because only parents can do this directly, they should provide
the assistance they need. By joining them every time they read and ask them about what they have
read about. Also, practicing conversations to improve their vocabulary can also increase their
reading comprehension.

• The only thing I can recommend to future researchers who will make this kind of topic is that you
should think broadly and give meaning to the information or words you write in your research paper
and you should talk to each other as one to have a better communication and follow the outline of
the research to make your research much easier.
RECOMMENDATION
• You can get an idea on Google but don’t copy paste the whole article or the documents, you can

also get an idea in Google as long as you give a credit to the author and always cooperate to your

groupmates so your research will be finish on time.

• In creating a research that is similar to this kind of topic make a research that is focuses on why this

topic is important and be specific and precise on the content of the research.
