A PROJECT PROPOSAL TO IMPLEMENT ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE:

SMART VEHICLES IN DLSUD

Introduction

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the emulation of human intelligence in computers

designed to think and imitate their behavior like humans. The word can also be applied to any
system that shows characteristics linked to a human mind, such as learning and problem-solving.
AI will continue to invade every area of outlives, from health care to education, entertainment to
security, in the next few years. Artificial intelligence is based on the principle that human
intelligence can be defined in a way that a machine can easily mimic it and execute tasks, from
the simplest to those that are even more complex. The goals of artificial intelligence include
learning, reasoning, and perception (Frankenfield, 2020).Dlsud is moving towards a more
sustainable public transport system by introducing a public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization
program with electric jeepneys (e-jeepneys)combined with AI technology.Despite its potential to
address problems related to air pollution, traffic congestion, dependence on fuel imports, and
carbon emissions, transport groups show resistance to the adoption of the government program
due to costs and investment risk issues. This proposal aims to have a smart and eco friendly
jeepney in De Lasalle University Dasmarinas (DLSUD) for students to use inside the campus.

Problem

 Adaptability of AI in road and weather conditions

 AI currently challenging the automotive industry
 great amount of data and expertise to build and leverage simulators
 unpredictable time and cost to market

Objectives

The objective of this research is to convert the present jeepney in De Lasalle University
Dasmarinas (DLSUD) into a Smart jeepney. By having an AI technology that would have a self
driving function. The vehicle is powered through electricity alone which would help the
environment.Using the application of the basic principles, models, and algorithms of AI to
recognize, model, and solve problems in the analysis and design of information systems. analyze
the structures and algorithms of a selection of techniques related to searching, reasoning,
machine learning, and language processing.Subject to regulatory and social acceptance, the
impact of completely autonomous cars is not limited to the disruption of the public transport
system, but also its potential to shake other industries. When talking about autonomous cars, it is
almost impossible not to discuss artificial intelligence. AI is used to enable the cars to navigate
through the traffic and handle complex situations. Also, with a combined AI software and other
IoT sensors, such as cameras, it becomes easier to ensure proper and safe driving Elezaj(2019).
Solution

• To have an AI that has great adaptability in all areas, road and weather conditions
we need to analyze and collect different data regarding these conditions, write a
program and algorithm, and apply it to the AI.
• By doing this AI Intelligence test we can find and solve problems that many
autonomous cars have and make a more safe, secure and more reliable car.
• We need a large amount of storage capacity that can store all the data recorded by
the AI simulators. We also need to find a facility to store and do all the simulation
and testing that we are going to do.

Method:

Resources:

The smart jeepney may require new roadway design features such as improved lane
markings, signs designed to be read electronically, and wireless repeaters in tunnels to provide
internet access. Autonomous driving may allow narrower traffic lanes, but to accommodate other
vehicles, large reductions are only feasible on special lanes limited to car traffic. There are also
numerous sensors providing data for the central computer of the vehicle during operation.
Sensors provide information for the road, other vehicles on the road as well as any other
impediments that can be noticed similarly to how a human can perceive them (Khayyam et al.,
2019). Some  of these sensors can provide better perception than the average human, but for this
to happen we need smart algorithms that can make sense of the data streams generated in real
time.

Schedule:

Due to lack of technological capabilities, researches and other form factors we might not
be able to give you an accurate schedule of our project.

Qualifications:

1. We need to have a large storage capacity to store all the data that we can record during
the AI Intelligence test.
2. We also need places to test our AI’s capability to recognize different road types, weather
conditions, and obstacle detection.
3. The AI intelligence test simulation should be able to record, analyze and record different
types of data and store it for further research.
4. We would like to have a fully functional AI that could work in any road and weather
conditions without the assistance of any human behind the steering wheel.

\
Management
It is now apparent that providing a complete solution to replace a human behind the
steering wheel is a formidable task (Boucherat, 2019). That is the reason why many
manufacturers have started dividing the problem into smaller pieces and solving each one and
thus taking smaller steps to achieve complete autonomy. One of the main tasks is to detect and
identify objects ahead and around the vehicle (Sagar and Nanjundeswaraswamy, 2019). Artificial
neural networks (ANN) are the algorithms typically used for this task. Another term for this field
is deep learning, because a neural network contains many layers that contain many nodes.
The analysis of video input uses machine learning algorithms and most likely neural
networks in order to classify objects. Since we have multiple sensors of different kinds it makes
sense to have dedicated hardware/software modules for each sensor. This approach allows for
parallel processing of data and therefore faster decision making. Each sensor unit can utilize a
different AI algorithm and then communicate its results to the other units or the central
processing computer.

Cost

One-unit costs ₱1.6 million (US$33,000) and has the capacity to travel approximately 55km on a
full battery charge, with an additional 5km from the solar power produced during the day.

It should be noted that while we examine this data on a make model basis, driving habits,
condition, and mileage obviously impact results. Each vehicle requires maintenance at different
frequencies. Older jeepneys may need more frequent services, while new jeepneys can go longer
without as much attention.

Basic maintenance factors include:

 7,500 miles: Check fluids and inspect the systems. Rotate tires.
 15,000 miles: Replace wiper blades.
 36,000 miles: Replace cabin air filter.
 75,000 miles: Replace hood gas struts.
 Every 5 years: Fill vehicle fluids and replace brake fluid.
 Every 7 years: Change air conditioning desiccant.

Electric jeepneys require far less maintenance than traditional jeepneys because they don't
contain an internal combustion engine. Aside from not having to change the oil in an electric
jeepney, here are some other maintenance tasks that our Electric jeepney won't need:

 Replacing the spark plugs

 Changing out fuel filters
 Swapping the drive belts
 Replacing the water pump
 Carburetor flooding/issues
 Blown head gaskets.
 Replacing belts/hoses
 Radiator problems
 Ring and cylinder wear
 Bearings/crankshafts/camshafts
 Exhaust system/pipes

The Electric Jeepney Supply Equipment: $200 - $1,000+ (₱9,500 - ₱50,000+)

Plug-in vehicles today typically come with the ability to charge with a standard current, 120
volts, which is called level 1 charging. They can also charge on faster 240-volt circuits, called
level 2 charging.

Most automakers with plug-in vehicles in their lineups have a preferred charger provider, but
there are dozens of companies selling supply equipment. Prices for quality Level 2 charging
systems can range from just under $200 to more than $1,000 before installation.

Cost of Installation: $800 - $1,500

Installation costs for supply equipment vary by region, depending on factors such as local labor
rates, materials used, and government permit costs and requirements.
