I Have Less, She Has Ample,

Topic / Title
He Has More, Let Us See
What’s In Store!
Grade Level Grade 7 –Science
Time Allotment 60 minutes
Content Standard
 Demonstrate understanding of some important properties of solutions (Grade 7)
 Demonstrate understanding of different techniques to separate mixtures (Grade 6)
Performance Standards
 The learners should be able to prepare different concentrations of mixtures according to uses and
availability of materials (Grade 7)
 The learners should be able to separate desired materials from common and local products. (Garde 6)
Most Essential Learning Competencies and Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
 Describe techniques in separating mixtures such as decantation, evaporation, filtering,
sieving and using magnet.
1. Describe saturated and unsaturated solution;
2. Determine how much solid solute dissolves in each volume of water; and
3. Describe the appearance of a saturated solution.
PRELIMINARIES: Health check/Cleanliness
ELICIT 5 minutes MATERIALS
 The teacher will ask the different techniques in separating mixtures? Pictures of substances
 The teacher will show pictures of different substances. found at home
 The students will guess where each of the substances belongs. Power point

Localization: Pictures of substances found at home

ENGAGE 8 minutes
 The same group of students will answer The same pictures used in
elicit
Power point

Contextualization and Localization: Students will be familiar with the

different substances found at home.
EXPLORE 20 MINUTES
Discussion of the activity: 6 teaspoons sugar
A. Pre activity discussion 1 cup of water
a. Materials needed 1 measuring cup (1cup
b. Discussing of procedures capacity)
c. Precautions 1 measuring spoon (½ tsp
B. Activity Proper capacity)
“What is the Evidence that a Solution is saturated?” 2 small clear, transparent
(Refer to activity sheet)
bottle
2 stirrers /spoon
1 thermometer
EXPLAIN 10 minutes
The teacher will let the students present their output. Manila Paper, Marker

ELABORATE 10 minutes
Ask the following questions: LCD Projector/ Power
1.What is the difference between the unsaturated and saturated Point Presentation
solutions? Pen, notebook
2. How do you know a solution is saturated?
3. What happens when a solution becomes saturated?
4. How many grams or teaspoons of sugar dissolved in 20 ml of water to
form saturated solution?
Interdisciplinary: English- students will construct phrases or sentences
using the English language.
EVALUATE 5 minutes
Let the learners answer the teacher made test: Pen and paper
Complete the statements:
1. A maximum amount of solute that can dissolve in a given amount of
solvent at a certain temperature is called the _________of the solute.
2. The solution that contains the maximum amount of solute dissolved
by a given amount of solvent is called a __________.
3. The presence of an excess solid which can no longer dissolve is
evidence that the solution is _____________.
4. A solution ___________________when it contains less solute than the
maximum amount it can dissolve at a given temperature.
5. The techniques of separating mixtures are
____5____,______6______, ______7_____, ______8_____,
_____9______and _____10_____.

LS: Frame
EXTEND 2 minutes
The students will bring the following materials: Board and chalk
