Carlos DeLuna arrested for looking like a killer
named Carlos Hernandez
Carlos DeLuna was released on parole when he witnessed the murder of a female gas station employee
named Wanda Lopez by his acquaintance, Carlos Hernandez. The similarities between DeLuna and
Hernandez contribute to this case.

Their first name, appearance, and common Hispanic race all match. These factors played into the mind
of the only witness who identified DeLuna, and not Hernandez as the killer. DeLuna was re-arrested
and put on trial.

More than 20 years after DeLuna's execution, James Leibman and his team inadvertently choose to
investigate DeLuna's case. They published a book report on May 15, 2012 entitled The Wrong Carlos:
Anatomy of a Wrongful Execution.

This report comprehensively exposes police incompetence, erroneous eyewitness testimony,

concealment of evidence, and many other discrepancies that led to DeLuna's wrongful execution.
