EFFECTIVENESS OF USING FACEBOOK IN INCREASING THE SALES OF ONLINE

SELLER STUDENTS OF CAGAYAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL- SENIOR HIGH

INTRODUCTION

Over the last few years, social media has changed the way businesses do
business online. As a result, social media marketing has created its own segment in the
business world. As more people connect to social networks, it stands to reason that
social media is becoming a more popular mode of communication for the Internet
audience (Carlson, 2011; Techtree News Staff, 2008).

The exponential rise in internet users has prompted businesses to investigate

effective methods of managing their online presence. Businesses have adopted new
business models to capitalize on the opportunities provided by the internet (Wielki,
2010). In addition to the growing number of internet users, social media has grown
rapidly, and an enormous increase in social media users is still visible all over the world.
Due to the accessibility of the Internet, many people today have chosen online business
as their primary source of income. The Internet expands the physical boundaries of
businesses' traditional distribution channels, creating a global online marketplace where
small and medium-sized businesses can compete with major corporations. Because of
the advantages that the internet provides, many people have begun to run their
businesses entirely online. These people can make money simply by conducting
business with their fingertips. Furthermore, because all business operations must be
managed online, they do not need to perform any strenuous physical labor. Additionally,
because all transactions will be done online, they will not have to spend time interacting
with customers in person (Nur et al., 2020). Professionals, on the other hand, argue that
social networking sites for marketing purposes are useless because people use
Facebook to connect with friends rather than as a resource for information.
Furthermore, many businesses are still hesitant to use social networking sites for
marketing because they lack content control, and it is still unknown whether social
networking advertisements actually help to sell goods or services. (Carrera et al., 2008;
Charlesworth, 2009; Dax, 2009; Gillin, 2009).

With over 600 million users and a presence in over 70 countries, Facebook is
one of the most popular social media platform and its increasing business adoption is
causing a shift away from traditional marketing and toward social marketing (Nair, 2011).
Facebook was founded in 2004. Since then, it has been utilized as a tool for individuals
to market themselves to the world. With the help of engaging posts, you can market or
present yourself to others, and Facebook is a superb tool for this. The most crucial
function of Facebook is its marketing one despite its other uses because it can
effectively promote a point or a product without spending even a single peso. Due to its
high daily traffic volume and the attention that its advertisements receive from its users,
Facebook has largely evolved into a marketplace. Facebook marketing’s main purpose
is getting website traffic or attention through advertisements. Consumers can access
information via Facebook at any time and from any location. Now that Facebook is
widely available and easily accessible, consumers can now follow what the media,
friends, associations, peers, and so on are saying about a brand or product in addition
to what the online retailer says about it (Reddy & Kumar, 2019).

People are busier than ever before as everything becomes digital and fast.
Online selling, for example, can significantly reduce the time and effort required by both
the seller and the buyer. Online selling also allows young people, such as students, to
earn their own money and relieve their parents' financial burden (Española, 2019).
Online selling is a type of electronic commerce that enables sellers to directly sell goods
or services to a buyer over the Internet using a web browser, according to trade expert
Caroline Peraut. Through the use of various contemporary technologies, online trading
enables people to transact instantly, easily, and safely (University of Rizal Syste, 2021).

The expansion of online sales across a number of social media platforms has
given young people the chance to realize their potential as entrepreneurs and secure
their futures. Additionally, as online selling advances, young adults involved in the scene
are better equipped to manage their finances on their own. Students who use
e-commerce as their platform to sell goods, products, or services are referred to as
online sellers. Students who sell goods online frequently take part in any business deal
made possible by the Internet. These student online sellers find online selling interesting
because they are accustomed to the internet because they were born in the modern
era. Since it is simpler for students to access and establish a business, competition in
the field of commerce grows, enhancing the sellers' marketing and trading strategies.
The e-commerce era aids student online sellers in developing their abilities for both their
academic studies and future careers (Alegario et. al., 2021).

The main goal of this study is to determine the potential effects of online selling
through the use of the Facebook social media platform, specifically on increasing
student sales and how beneficial it is for them as a part-time job and source of income.
