Hello everyone,

Welcome to the Developing Personal and Management skills module! My name is Asare Amaning
and I'm your tutor for this module. I hope you all enjoy the learning experience on the module, and I
look forward to working with you over the next six weeks.

Before we introduce this new module, think about your experience on the last module that you
completed. Reflect on your study experience and identify two key learning points that you can bring
forward to this module. Make notes in your “My Notebook” space for this new module. This
Developing Personal and Management skills module enables you to understand the basic principles
of what one requires to develop personally as well developing and improving on your management
skills, especially when it comes to decision making. As future managers it will assist in the analysis of
strategic information and be able to discuss the changes in various decisions.

Topics such as, Ratios, financial analysis, forecasting, investment appraisal techniques may be new
areas of studies, you may also remember some from your elementary studies. As you make progress
through the module you will also encounter business models and tools that you may have heard of
in other modules on your course that are also applicable for our study of business maths. We’ll use a
range of texts as we make progress though this module, but the following are particularly useful and
available on the Online libraries:

As you will see from the module webpage, the next assessment will be in class examination, the
exam date will be communicated to you in due course. We’ll be working our way through the
module materials and the various activities included within the ten lessons to develop your
understanding of the topic and of course to prepare you so that you can complete the module
assessment. Please read over the information about the ten lessons on the module webpage to get
an understanding of the structure of the module. Also, please take some time to read over the
assessment document for the module and please let me know if you have any questions about the
various elements of the assessment. Note, in particular that, you have the opportunity to receive
formative feedback on a draft of your plan for the assessment or support from your lecturer

I will particularly encourage you to spend time looking at information and documents you have been
alerted to in ILearn, all classes will be recorded and if for an unforeseen reason you are not able to
make the class, please make sure you watch the video. I also encourage group learning or studying in
pairs. This can be a good opportunity for you to share your understanding and learn from each
other’s questions. You can of course e-mail me if you have any questions about the module or
assessment to aamaning@arden.ac.uk.

Please note that your tutors will respond to your e-mails within two business days. When you are
ready to start the module, please get in touch with me by e-mail to introduce yourself. Please also
remember that student support is there to assist you with any queries you have of an administrative
nature including queries relating to payments, registrations and technical issues –
studentsupport@arden.ac.uk.

Thanks, and all the best for your studies on the module.
