1. PURPOSE

The purpose of this Method Statement is to provide the work methods for installation of
Sheet Pile (SP) to augment the capacity of already installed Fabricated anchor block
(1.2m wide x 2m long x 2m deep) and associated works to hold the machine in place for
pulling of 30” dia TNJ-1 pipeline at KM67+337.
This method statement ensure that the processes involved in the drilling technique are
efficiently executed by eliminating possible errors.

2. SCOPE OF WORK

This scope of works describes the specific work required to be implemented for
installation of sheet piling under "MIP PKG 17 Ras Tanura Area Pipeline Project". This
method statement applies to the required materials and equipment used for Sheet Piling
technique. It defines the responsibilities for planning and execution of Sheet Piling to
augment the capacity of already installed fabricated anchor block to facilitate completion
of pipe pilling of 30” carrier pipe at 30” TNJ-1 pipeline KM67+337.

 Site engineer is responsible to ensure the Crossing crew understands the traffic
Management and Control Plan, ensure all required permits are in place, and the
requirement of safe work.
 QC Inspector is responsible to cover all site activities in accordance with the approved
Project Quality Plan as approved by Saudi Aramco.
 QC Supervisor is to ensure all Inspection Procedures reporting, and acceptance will be
adhered to QC site Team as per Saudi Aramco policy be always in contact with the
Saudi Aramco QC Division responsible for the project.
 HDD Project Coordinator is responsible for coordination with various departments and
client through commencement till the Project Completion.
 Safety officer in-charge on the area will conduct daily safety inspection on the work
area to ensure that all workers are in compliance of the safety.

6. METHODOLOGY

6.1 General

This Method Statement is based on the sheet piling execution process as described below,
Section 6.3.

In some circumstances activities or stages may not be applicable. It may also be necessary
to add activities or stages, depending on either internal or customer requirements or
Contract agreement.

6.2 Execution Plan

Based on the Project, an execution team consists of the Project Leader, Supervisor,
Operator, Gang Leader and labor.

This execution team shall discuss formally the scope of work, project details as well as
review any critical safety issues that may be relevant, this will be discussed on-site prior to
job commencement.

Project Leader shall ensure, prior to Sheet Piling operation, the availability of resources and
equipment required for the execution.

6.3 Project Execution


The activities involved in the Sheet Piling technique can be summarized (when required)
as:
6.3.1 Site Survey
Project Leader/ Supervisor shall prepare a Site visit report, prior to Execution, where
the Soil condition may vary along the depth and length of pipeline crossing.
6.3.2 Site Preparation
Project Leader/ Supervisor shall ensure the following preparation at the site location:

 Traffic signage and access to site is clearly identifiable and non-disruptive to


traffic flow, if required.
 Construction of temporary road at the site access for setting-up equipment, if
required.
 Preparation of Lay-down (level compacted) area so that equipment, storage
containers are located on a level platform, if required.
 The anchor block area should be cordoned off with the safety tape and clearly
identify & mark any buried service that may be intrusive during the drilling
operations.
 Obtain the necessary site permits/access control, prior to operation.

6.3.3 Anchor Pit Framework

 Prior to installation of sheet piles, according to the dimension of Anchor pit, a


Steel frame shall be fabricated using steel I or H Beams
 The general dimension for thrust pit dimensions shall be minimum of 2 meters
long x 1.2 meters wide and 2.0m deep.

 Surveyor shall locate the area with the center line using a thread rope to control
the straightness & vertically on the position

6.3.4 Sheet Piling Process

 Prior to commencement of installation of sheet piles area shall be surveyed with


the help of the cable detector to ensure that area is free from any existing utility.
 Exploratory manual excavation upto a depth of 1.5m shall be carried out in order
to ensure that there are no existing utilities in the location of site of sheet piles.
 The sheet pipes shall be installed with reference to the Anchor block.
 Installed anchor block shall be used as guide to hold the sheet piles by piling
hammer.
 A vibro-hammer suspended with crane shall be used to drive the sheet piles into
the ground, a level may be used in checking the verticality of the sheet pile wall.
 The steel frame shall be used to guide and correct the pile verticality and
position.
 Sheet pile hammer and crane shall continue in synchronize until the desired
depth is attained. The next sheet pile, which shall be interlocked with the
previous sheet pile.
 Ensure no damage to the sheet piles during installation
 Figure 1 shows the interlock between two sheet piles.

6.3.5 Documentation:

 Project Leader Supervisor shall prepare the Daily Progress Report on daily basis
detailing the project status and hindrances to the main Contractor
 The Daily Progress report summary is then submitted to the PLD Manager to
review and comment.

6.4 Project Completion

 After Completion of Project Execution, Project Leader shall intimate Project Coordinator
for processing the Work Progress Certificate.
 Where appropriate the execution team shall discuss any lessons learned after Project
completion and record in Project Close-out Sheet, to avoid repetition of faults made
during the project.
 Where appropriate, the main Contractor shall be asked to complete a customer
feedback form to gauge their overall satisfaction

7. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

 Obtain the work permit according to GI 2100. All the approved documents such as
MOS, JSA, and HIP etc. must be present and available at site.
 PPE requirements and usage (e.g., face shield, ear plugs, etc.) shall be in compliance
with the CSM 1-3 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
 All safety precautionary signboards must be visibly posted, and barricades install to
ensure that only authorized personnel are within the affected area.
 Pre-Excavation checklist will be conducted and provision of excavation protection such
as shoring /sloping according to soil condition, if required as per Excavation and
Shoring guide 06-002-2008.
 Hand tools and power tools must be inspected, and color coded by a competent person
prior to use in site.
 Electrical cables must be free from damaged and competent electrician name and
contact numbers be posted in the area.
 The work shall be executed in accordance with the approved Job Safety Analysis
(JSA).
 Inspected UL/FM fire extinguisher must be readily available in the area.
 Personnel must have familiar about the requirements of all job activities.

on asphalt road after closing the road to prevent
vehicle entry into work area.
2.2.5. Traffic control barriers, lights, etc., shall conform
to the Ministry of Communications’ Manual on
Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
2.2.6. Temporary signs shall be erected to route traffic
in the safest manner to, from and within the
site. Temporary signs shall not be placed on
public highways and roads (refer to Saudi
Arabian Government traffic regulations).
2.2.7. Road closures shall be performed in accordance
with Saudi Arabian Government regulations and
SA requirements, including GI 1021.000.
2.2.8. More than one access road shall be provided
when emergency access by a single road could
be impaired by vehicle congestion, condition of
terrain, climatic conditions, or other factors.
2.2.9. Entrance and exit flagmen shall be within sight
of each other. If conditions do not permit this,
