GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
This laboratory activity will enrich your skills in conceptual and computational projectile. Remember that you have
to work with your groupmates and to behave cautiously to avoid accidents.
MATERIALS:
1 pc. marble
4-5 pcs. books
1 pc. ruler
1 stopwatch
1. Construct your ramp. Stack the books about 30cm from the edge of a table. Attach the ramp to the book stack
using tape.
2. Now, measure the distance from the bottom of the ramp to the end of the table. Record this on the table below.
3. Next, place an object like a smaller book at the end of the track to prevent the marble from flying off of the track,
or have a friend catch it.
4. Get your timer ready and place your marble at the top of the ramp. Measure the time it takes to get from the
bottom of the ramp to the end of the track. Record this value in your notebook.
5. Repeat step 6 three times and take an average to get a more accurate value for time.
6. Now, calculate the initial velocity by dividing distance by the average time: v = d/t.
7. Now that we know initial velocity, its possible to predict how long it will take the ball to hit the floor.
8. Measure the distance from the table to the floor and record this in your notebook as the height of the marble.
9. Next, calculate where the marble should hit the floor. But first, we need to calculate the time. Since the marble is
falling to the floor, the acceleration is equal to the gravity. Use the equation: t=√(2dy/g).
10. Then, calculate how far will it go from the table.
11. After calculating, test whether your calculations are right by letting go of the marble from the top of the ramp and
off the table. Make sure to record the time it takes for the marble to fall off from the edge of the table to the floor.
Measure the distance of landing from the edge of the table.

Q&A
In a short paragraph, write your generalization and conclusion of the experiment.
“Are there differences between the data that you have gathered from the experiment and the values you computed? If
yes, what could be the factors that have affected the results you have collected?”
