10-Minute-a-day Techniques For Toning The Vagus Nerve To Support The Overwhelmed Nervous System
Discover how to safely and effectively tone the vagus nerve to support you in bringing the nervous system back to a calmer and more regulated
state where you, your loved ones, or your clients are able to thrive again. When your nervous system is supported – you are supported
Traumatic experiences have the chance to offer us growth. However, they can also compromise the nervous system and cause us to live from
a place of chronic anxiety.
In turn, this can leave us feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and helpless, finding it challenging to understand and regulate our emotions and
triggers.
However, according to lead trauma expert Dr. Stephen Porges, the key to supporting the nervous system in moving from a state of chronic fear
and stress to a calmer and more regulated state is through the vagus nerve.
The vagus nerve - starting at the brain and connecting to the gut, liver, heart, and lungs - is responsible for helping our body return back to a
calm and more regulated state after a trauma response.
This is why a weak vagus nerve is associated with difficulty regulating emotions, whereas a
strengthened vagus nerve is associated with emotional stability and resilience.
Thankfully, there is a way to increase the tone of the vagus nerve to support you in moving to a place
of emotional stability.
This way, you can feel supported during difficult times when you need it most.
With the consultation of our top experts in polyvagal theory and somatic therapies, Rewire Therapy
has brought together expert-approved vagal toning exercises that can slowly and gently help to calm
the overwhelmed nervous system.
With these exercises and enough time, you can help yourself, your loved ones, or your clients soothe
and support the overwhelmed nervous system to move you towards a calmer and more regulated
state.
