PROBLEM 1 (15pts)

The specific gravity of a liquid is 3.0, what are its specific weight,
density and specific volume.

PROBLEM 2 (15pts)

Seawater contains approximately 3.5% salt by weight. How much

seawater (in kg) contains 1 kg of salt? If the density of seawater is
1030 kg/m3, what is the volume of seawater, in liters, containing 1
kg of salt?

PROBLEM 3 (15pts)

Carbon tetrachloride with a mass of 500kg is placed in container

with 0.0325m3 in volume. Calculate its density, specific weight
and also its weight.

PROBLEM 4 (15pts)

A quart of water weighs 4.08lb. Compute the following:

a. Mass in slugs
b. Mass in kg
c. Volume in cu.ft.

PROBLEM 5 (10pts)

If an object has a mass of 22kg at sea level, (a) what will be its
weight at a point where the acceleration due to gravity g = 9.75
m/s2 ? (b) What will be its mass at that point.

PROBLEM 6 (15pts)

A 10m diameter cylindrical tank has a height of 5m and is full of

water at 200C (unit weight of water = 9.789 kN/m3). If the water
is heated to a temperature of 500C (unit weight of water = 9.689
kN/m3),
a. Compute the weight of water
b. What is the final volume when heated to a temp. of 500C
c. Determine the volume of water that will spill over the
edge of the tank.
