In 2014, at the age of 17, Malala Yousafzai became the world’s youngest Nobel Prize winner. She was
recognized for her efforts toward improving the lives of women and children in her home country of Pakistan,

The Olympic Games were first held in Greece nearly three thousand years ago. They were very popular
for over a thousand years before stopping in 393 A.D. They started again in 1896 in Athens, thanks to a bold
idea from a Frenchman named Pierre de Coubertin.
In 1913, de Coubertin designed the Olympic flag. He showed it for the first time in 1914 at a meeting of
the International Olympic Committee in Paris. However, the flag was not used at the games until the 1920
Olympics in Antwerp.
Its design is simple. The idea comes from a stone discovered at Delphi, the ancient site of the original
games. The flag is white with five connecting circles in the center, representing the five continents that take
part in the Olympics. The international symbolism of these linked circles in a powerful one. Each circle is a
different color – blue, yellow, black, green and red. These represent the colors found in the national flag of
every participating country.
At every opening ceremony, athletes from the host country carrying the Olympic flag and take an
oath, or promise, to honor the games and play by the rules. The flag and its five-ring logo are protected in
most countries and may only be used for official Olympic purposes. The Olympic flag is one of the world's most
recognized flags, because it is something that represents so many of us.
