How is Problem Based Learning implemented?

• Explore the issue

• State what is known

• Define the issue

• Research the knowledge

How is Problem Based Learning implemented?

• Investigate solutions

• Present and support the chosen solution

• Review your performance

Before Implementing Problem Based Learning (PBL)

1. Look for competencies that would meet the objectives and are ideal
for PBL. (You may use the K-12 Curriculum Guide)

2. Orient your class about PBL.

Before Implementing Problem Based Learning (PBL)

3. Provide a problem or have a brainstorm with a class in identifying a

problem that would be significant in solving real- world problems.

• Here are some problems that will allow students to apply the Writing
competencies provided previously:

you propose it should be fixed.

Gold Standard PjBL: Project Based Teaching
Practices
When transitioning to PBL, one of the
biggest hurdles for many teachers is the need to
give up some degree of control over the classroom,
and trust in their students.

 But even though they are more often the

“guide on the side” than the “sage on the
stage,” this most certainly does not mean that
teachers don’t “teach” in a PBL classroom.
Many traditional practices remain, but are
reframed in the context of a project.
