STATISTICAL METHODS IN EDUCATION

EM 202 PRELIM EXAM.
SY 2022- 2023 First Semester

NAME Evan Jane D. Jumamil DATE: September 30, 2022 SCHOOL: Conception National High School
DIVISION: Misamis Occidental

TEST 1: Match Column A with Column B. 5 points each correct answer.

Column A Column B
B. Desciptive 1. Statistics concerned with describing the numerical properties of data. A-Inferential
A Inferential 2. Statistics concerned with derivation of scientific inference about B- Descriptive
generalization of results. C- Population
C. Population 3. A group of phenomena that have something in common. D –Variable
E. Sampling 4. Usually done because it is impossible to test every single individual E – Sampling
In the population. F –Hypothesis
D. Variable 5. Any characteristics or quantity that can be measured. G-Independent
variable
G. Independent variable 6. Variable sometimes called experimental to observe the effect. H–
Null Hypothesis
F. Hypothesis 7. A suggested solution for an unexplained occurrence. I - Dependent
H. Null hypothesis 8. Type of hypothesis used that there is no difference between J - Criterion
certain characteristics of a population. K –Alternative Hypothesis
I. Dependent 9. Variable always being measured.
J. Criterion 10. A standard on which a judgement or decision may be based.

Test II –Enumeration: 5 points each

1 – 2 = 2 process of Random Sampling and give one (1) sample each.
1. Probability sampling, example is the lottery method in which the names of 30 learners out of 300 are
chosen out of a hat.
2. Non-probabiity sampling, example is the criteria where you collect easily the data with a particular
criterion.
3 - 4 = 2 kinds of Systematic Sampling and give one ( 1) sample each.
3. Linear systematic sampling, example you have 20 sample size then a 50 total population therefore
your sampling is 2.5 interval.
4. Circular systematic sampling, example if N= 7 and n=2, k= 3.5. if we consider k=3, the sample will be --
ad, be, can, db and ec.
5 - 9 = 5 steps to form a sample using the Systematic sampling technique.
5. Identify the target Population
6. Select sampling frame
7. Specify the sampling technique
8. Determine the sample size
9. Execute the sampling plan
10-13 = 5 Examples of Non- Probability Sampling.
10. Volunteer sampling
11. Judgement sampling
12. Quota sampling
13 crowdsourcing
14-15 = Sample of Dependent and Independent Variable.
If one wants to estimate the cost of living of an individual, then the factors such as salary, age, marital
status, etc. are independent variables, while the cost of living of a person is highly dependent on such
factors. Therefore, they are designated as the dependent variable.
Test III – Answer briefly but fully:
1- Discuss the importance of Statistics in Education. ( 10 points)
Statistics is collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting data. In education, statistics is
important because of these reasons: first is, it allows the educators to understand student
performance using descriptive statistics. Second, it allows educators to spot trends in student
performance using data visualizations. And lastly, it allows educators to compare different
teaching methods using hypothesis test. Therefore, statistics give a concrete and reliable data
that we needed to improved and to determined where to give important to a particular topic or
matter and to look for a solution to a particular problems. It makes the method process more
efficient.

2- How dependent and independent variables affect in the writing of Research.( 15 points)

In research, independent and dependent variables manipulate or measure in studies to test cause-and-
effect relationships Where independent variable is the cause. It's the value is independent of other
variables in your study. The dependent variables is the effect.
