OVERVIEW OF THE CURRENT STATE TECHNOLOGY

A locker is a container-based storage unit where objects are kept while their owner is busy with other
activities (Williams, 2019). Traditional lockers can be seen in different establishments and places. To
keep the lockers secure, different types of lock exist, having padlocks and combination locks (Williams,
2019) as the most common types.

By using lockers, students, particularly those living far from school can easily store their things to be
used later on without the need of going home just to get it, reducing their expenses and saving their
time. People working out on gyms can be at ease while they do their routine as their belongings is
securely place inside the locker. Those are just some of the examples of how useful lockers are and its
versatility to be used in different establishments.

The most used traditional lockers consisting of a metal lock has been around for ages. It’s easy to install
and implement. But, as time goes by, these locks become rusty and eventually break having the needs to
replace it again. Additionally, security issues such as the lock being easy to open unauthorized by simply
using a master key or a pick pocket is also a concern.

The proposed project aims to cater current issues that the traditional lockers have. Instead of using pad
locks and keys, an RFID tags will be used. RFID tags will never rust compare to padlock keys, making this
type of technology much usable. RFID tags can also be reprogrammed to be used in different smart locks
compare to padlock keys that can only be used to open a specific padlock. Padlocks also tend to be hard
to open sometimes and needs to be lubricated to work again, RFID enabled locks on the other hand can
easily open by simply tapping the tags to the reader.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

1. To create a profitable business.

2. To provide a versatile, rust proof, easy to open locker.

3. To provide semi-permanent storage.

4. To provide easy access to things without the hassle of carrying it around all the time.

4. To introduce the use of smart technology to the public.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE RESEARCH

The scope of this project is any public places or establishments who needs a locker to secure their
belongings/things. Smart locker will be helpful to customer/consumer to overcome the problem to
safety, security, and things being misplaced in public places. In this, we will provide a smart locker with
the use of RFID tag that is hassle free and easy to use. Hence, forgotten lock code or lost keys will never
be a problem at all.

The limitation of this project is the maintenance for the battery that is needed to operate the locks, as
well as the site or areas that might get it wet.
