Monitoring System
Substation equipment life management is of key
importance and one of the best ways to accurately
survey your network is through an efficient monitoring
system. AREVA T&D has developed the CBWatch-2
monitoring system which can be your proactive link to
cost-effective circuit breaker management.
‘The CBWatch-2 is installed directly on to the circuit breaker and maintains a constant,
monitored link with your local or remote database via the CBWalchTool software
package. The monitoring system records information coming from the sensors
installed on the breaker and analyzes ths information, comparing it with standard
‘operational parameters programmed into the system.
‘The CBWatch-2 monitoring system offers you the possibilty to manage a proactive,
mote cost-effective maintenance program by constantly monitoring your cireut
breakers’ condition and the trends in the operational parameters. These advance
\waming notifications are your best insurance to avoiding network failure and
{quaranteeing longer life to your equipment.

SF, OR GAS MIXTURES
‘The installation of the CBWatch-2 monitoring
system makes it possible to constantly watch the
{gas pressure and temperature, calculating the SF.
‘or gas mixture density using the Beattie-Bridgeman
algorithm. It detects and inhibits false alarms in the
event of liquefaction. The system calculates SF.
leakage rates giving you advance warning before
sending alarms or reaching lockout threshold levels.
The system also maintains historical records.
MECHANICAL OPERATION
(CBWatch-2 monitors close and open operating
times; allows the use of conventional auxiliary
‘switches or primary contact travel sensors;
‘monitors primary contacts separation speed,
buffering and over travel; detects mechanical
performance deterioration (fiction, corrosion,
breakage, spring fatigue and buffer defects),
and it monitors auxiliary switch timing.
SPRING OR HYDRAULIC OPERATING
MECHANISM
(CBWatch-2 can also monitor the hydraulic or
spring operating mechanisms. For spring operated
‘mechanisms, the system monitors recharging
‘motor operating time and can detect motor limit
switch defects. For hydraulic operating systems,
it monitors pump motor operating time, detects
internal and external leackage, ritrogen loss from
the accumulator and threshold pressure,
SWITCHING
During switching, the CBWatch-2 monitors
the current during breaking, arc duration,
and estimates primary contact wear.
AUXILIARY AND CONTROL CIRCUITS
‘The CBWatch-2 system also monitors operating
coil continuity, your auxiliary supply voltage and
heater intogrity,
AVAILABLE VERSIONS
‘CBWatch-2 exists for circuit breakers with one
‘operating mechanism for all three poles or for one
‘operating mechanism for each of the three poles.
‘CBWatoh-2 also exists for Generator Circuit
Breakers (please consult us forthe available
functions),

(CBWatch-2 Human-Machine Interface Software)
CBWatch-2 is provided with communication interfaces
that connect to a personal computer loaded with the
‘CBW2Tool Human-Machine interface Software.
This software gives access to CBWatch-2 settings,
‘event recordings, measurements and alarms.
> Connection and configuration
Connection to a CBWatch-2 can be made via a
RS232 or a RS485 serial link, via MODEM or an
Ethemet gateway. The software configures and
edits the data via a user-friendly interface.
> Access to the measurements and to the alarms.
‘The software allows for the visual display ofthe state
ofthe on-going alarms and measurements on the
‘connected CBWatch-2 to be shown,
> Access to the recordings of events
‘The data archived in the CBWatch-2 connected to the
PC can be downloaded and saved in EXCEL format,
then recalled, visualised, and printed out
‘The archived events can be studied andior recalled
‘on your PC at your leisure.
