Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

English 7

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
● identify the different types of analogy
● recognize the correct word or expression that completes an analogy
● write examples of an analogy on a scrap book or draw an illustration to show word relationships

II. Subject Matter:


● Topic: Understanding Word Relationship through Analogy
● MELC: EN7V-IV-c-23; EN7V-IV-c-23.1
● Reference: SDO QC Prepared Module
● Materials: PowerPoint Presentation, Video Presentation, Visual Aids, Printed Learning
Assessment

III. Procedure:
A. ROUTINE ACTIVITIES:
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance: English Rocks!!!

B. LESSON PROPER:
 ELICIT – GUESS THE NEXT PIC
1. The teacher will show set of pictures as shown below:

2. Then students will guess the appropriate object that is next to the pattern.

 ENGAGE
1. Let them watch a video presentation about analogy then ask the following
questions;
a. What are the objects being compared in the video?
b. What does analogy mean?
c. How does analogy differ from other way of comparison?

 ELABORATE
1. After watching the video, elaborate the different types of analogy such as;
a. Synonym analogy
b. Antonym analogy
c. Part and Whole analogy
d. Object/Purpose/Function analogy
e. Cause and Effect analogy
f. Characteristic analogy
2. Ask student to give their own examples of analogy base on the given types of
analogy.

 EXERCISE
1. Let’s Practice: Group the class into 6. Each group will give 5 sets of analogies
base on the analogy assigned to them:
a. Group 1 – Synonym analogy
b. Group 2 – Antonym analogy
c. Group 3 – Part and Whole analogy
d. Group 4 – Object/Purpose/Function analogy
e. Group 5 – Cause and Effect analogy
f. Group 6 – Characteristic analogy
2. Grade the group using the following criteria
Content – 40%
Teamwork – 30%
Creativity – 30%
Total – 100%

 ENCAPSULATE (3-2-1 Sum it Up)


1. Call 3 students to sum-up define analogy on their own words.
2. Call 2 students to give at least 2 types of analogy and its meaning.
3. Call 1 student to write an analogy on the board.

IV. EVALUATE
A. Complete each pair of analogy. Choose your answer from the given choices. (Give the printed
learning assessment)

V. ASSIGNMENT
A. Write two examples of each type of analogy previously discussed. Do not include previously
given examples. Do the activity on a whole sheet of paper and submit it the next meeting
B. Create at least 3 picture analogies. Do it on a short bond paper. (PETA 1)
