14 SURFACE SAND COAGUL ANT
(Coagulant Agent for Surface Sand Collection)
Case Overview
Well EM-A115 with no gravel pack due to high risk. Well producing 1000 bopd (20-40% w/c)
▪ Found damage zone #1 – Presence of debris (risk to install gravel pack)
▪ Mechanical anchor failed to operate
▪ Gravel pack sleeve failure
(June 2017) Sand production observed, resulted to choke erode. TTSS of 200micron installed @1897 ft (sand still heavily produced). Well is then shut-
in.
(2018) Desander (50 and 100micron filter pot) were brought in to BOL well and protect surface facility; failed to unload. Suspect due to sand build-
up/hardening which plugged the screen
(2019) CTU sand-clean-out and FineTreat was injected at surface for variable injection rate (0.3%, 0.5%, neat) into desander process
Estimate rate 20,000ppm to 55,000ppm subject to well flowback rate
LPSA of sand exit desander trap were compared.
Neat concentration brings better sand flocculant which shown majority of size exit desander is >45% compared to no-treatment or low concentration
