Star Topology
Star Topology
In Star topology, the nodes are connected to the central hub or router in which
the information is travel from central hub or router to all the nodes. There are n
links in Star topology, if there are n nodes. The nodes are connected to each
other completely via dedicated link in which the information is travel from nodes
to nodes.A new cable is added to the central hub to add a new node in star
topology.

Devices in a star network operate in a way that the central hub through which all
the devices are connected broadcasts the data to the respective node from the
respective node. Thus, here the signal flow is centrally managed.
This is the reason; the hub must be properly configured as any type of issue in the
hub will cause, failure of the complete system. Hence it offers the flexibility of
operation with other devices even when a single device of the network is faulty.
The whole network configuration resembles a star; thus, it is named so. However,
its structure is quite complex, but it is preferred over bus topology due to the
advantages associated with it.

Star – Also known as a spoke and hub configuration, in this setup devices are connected not to
one another but rather to a central master/controller or hub. So messages can’t be passed from
one device to another directly but must go through the central master/controller.
The most significant benefit of star topologies is that the failure of one node doesn’t impact the
rest of the network. It’s also simpler to add devices on the network as the only connection is to
the central hub. On the other hand, the central hub is the main point of failure, so if it fails the
entire network stops working. Plus, adding devices to the network requires additional cabling,
which can get expensive as the device count rises.
