Arch: It is a position wherein the body is curved backward like an arc of a circle, the hip
forward, and the head and truck bent backward
Tuck: Position is where knees and hips are bent and drawn into the chest, and the body
is folded at the waist.
Base: The base is one of the important roles in gymnastics, especially when acrobatic.
They are the ones who partner who support the other performer above. The role in pair
and group competition requires strength and balance. They are usually an older and
larger athlete.
Mount: It is a skill used in gymnastics to get on the apparatus. It is needed for balance
beams and uneven bars.
Pike: It is a position wherein the body is bent forward more than 90 degrees at the hips
while the legs are kept straight.
Press: It is one of the most challenging skills to achieve in gymnastics. They used their
hands to balance or make skills by pressing their hands in the beam or floor.
Straddle: it is one of the primary positions in gymnastics. The legs are extended
sideways. The straddle jumps are done on the floor or beam.
Splits: One of the standards and basic shapes we can see in gymnastics. It is ground
skills that use to improve their flexibility. It is a position where the legs are extended
forward and backward in a straight position.
Spotter: It is personnel that physically assist in safely completing a skill. A spotter can
help reduce the risk of injury and ensure proper technique and body positioning. The
spotting can be done hands-on or with a spotting device such as a spotting belt.
Held or Static Position: these are positions held for two or more seconds
Prone: It is a position in the gymnastic that performers are lying in their stomachs.
Scale: It is also called arabesque can be in ballet or gymnastics. It is a position where
the leg is raised high, ideally to a 180-degree split, while using the other leg as a
balancer. It is mainly done on the beam and may be done to the front, back, or side with
a slightly lowered upper body.
Exercise/ Routine: It planned series of dance skills, locomotors skills, gymnastics
skills, and tumbling skills performed with or without music
